Electric steam sterilizers, Whatchu think?
    #15924581 - 03/09/12 01:12 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I was going to order one of the 50x All American electric steam sterilizers.  This model boasts a 35 minute sterilization cycle, which kicks the shit out of 60 imo.  Plus my current cooker is an 8qt capacity compared to this 25 qt model.  Might as well go big right?  I think I would save alot of time and effort by using this even though its pretty expensive.  Any thoughts?

They're great.
But you still have to sterilize your grains for 90-120 minutes in them.
The best part about them is that they're "set & forget."
You just have to remember to turn it off after the run.
& if you're going go BIG, why  not get the 75x? it's 41.5 quarts.

Thanks bro.  Yeah what's another $190 when I'm already gonna spend almost 7 bills.  The set and forget is probably the most appealing thing.  Guessing the 35 min cycle will still be a good idea when reusing jars and other equipment.

What do you mean reusing jars?
You don't need to sterilize empty jars before using them.

30 minutes would be fine for scalpels, inoc loops & syringes.

Many times I get grains stuck to the sides of jars after the colonization process.  Soaking and scrubbing is tedious and sometimes those bits are impossible to get, but I'd imagine that an open steam sterilize would get rid of them or at least make them easier to get out without messing w/ my dishwasher.  But yeah, I plan on using it for syringes and tips as well.

On second thought, that's retarded of me.  I could just soak the jars overnight and I'm sure there's no way the shit would stick.  :foreheadslap:

I just use the spray nozzle on my sink.
& make sure the water is really hot.
You shouldn't be having a lot of sticking grain to your jar after spawning.

Maybe moisture content of the grains is making it stick but it pisses me off to no end.  Then again, I'm really lazy when it comes to cleaning dishes.

P.S. your bandana is sweet in your profile pic.

Those AA sterilizers look awesome. If you really want to set it and forget it, I got one of these 15 amp timers for $5 at a thrift shop:

I put it on my PC hot plate and have it preset it for 90 mins - after it's up to pressure I can go do other things without babysitting it ;^)

I hate dishes, too.
I usually go out drinking then come back & do them drunk.
It makes it a lot easier.

It's a keffiyeh, bro, but :thanx:
