Ok so im going to Wal mart tonight to buy everything I need to get the inoculation process started and I was wondering if it would raise any suspicions or not. Here's what im going to be buying.
-Isopropyl Alcohol -Box of 8 wide mouth, half pint mason jars -Brown rice or brown rice flour -A bag of Vermiculite -Distilled water
I also might get a syringe without the needle for making a spore syringe, I have one but it originally had some kind of oil in it. I cleaned it really good and followed the instructions on this site for steralizing but idk. Leme know what you think on this pls and ty.

Nope should be fine as long as your not buying a bunch of meth cooking meterials and stuff like that not too many people are familiar with the mushroom growing process besides its none of there business what you buy and being that its at walmart no one is going to pay any attention anyways. walmart blows...

No, vermiculite is commonly bought for growing, and all the other things look innocent enough. You shouldn't have to worry

Walmart won't have vermiculite. And as long as you're shopping elsewhere anyway, skip Walmart and shop someplace cool.
Arouse suspicions, that's another question. Today I was at a chain home improvement store, and two sketchy looking characters were checking out the cactus section. Most people wouldn't wonder what a couple of pierced, dyed and blazed guys want with cacti- others don't need to wonder, because they know.

It shouldn't be an issue, but I've encountered enough nosy employees that it helps to have a cover story. I've found that "my girlfriend/boss etc sent me to pick it up. I have no idea" tends to work best with the least explanation.
Also, the Walmart near me only has mason jars at certain times of the year, so you may strike out there. However, the Ace Hardware across the street always has them, so be prepared to make more than one stop.

good luck finding all that at wally world. I've never found the standard 1/2 pint WM jars there. There's cheaper places to get verm, too. Mine doesn't sell BRF, either.
The only way you're going to get noticed is if there's another grower & he/she sees you w/ all that in your cart. I've called out a few kids at wally world picking up supplies, before. Once I told them they had the wrong jars. They just looked at me, left the cart & walked outta the store.
Hell, I don't get questioned when I walk into the local farm store & buy 20 syringes & 10 18ga & 10 16gay needles.

I bought a big ass bag of vermiculite for $20 over four years ago at a local garden center. I still have two grocery bags worth left.

Yea man I'm sure hundreds of people are buying weirder assortment of things daily! You will get inquiries more often at small family owned places with only a register or two open. But at places where you're rolling through 10 people every 5 minutes its really not gonna raise a flag Just remember growing fungi is nothing like making a bomb when it comes to your grocery list! It takes someone who has seen or done a grow to know what if looks like. Just gave questions preanswered in your head.
You can foods man! You're into preserving.
When I was extracting D I had a reputation at the hardware store as "Tyler Durden" they all thought I was making soap =]

I wouldn't ask anyone's help that called me out on growing. I'd be like,

Yea, I got some really funny looks from the people at the hardware store when I was trying on PVC fittings. Trying to see how well my arm fit in them for my SAB.

I really wish we could make a sticky that explains the terms "wide mouth" and "regular mouth" as they pertain to canning jars...
Half pint REGULAR mouth jars look like this and usually come in packs of 12.

Half pint WIDE mouth jars look like this and usually come in packs of 4. These jars will give you absolute hell when in comes time to birth them and it will likely be impossible to birth them in one piece.

Here they are next to each other.

The one on the right is what you want for the PF tek. The one on the left is commonly used in mushroom cultivation as home made petri dishes and liquid cultures.
