Successful "hydroshroom" cultivation
    #15920127 - 03/08/12 03:09 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Has anyone ever used the hydroshroom system and successfully cultivated psychedelic mushrooms with it. Yes I’m aware that mushrooms cannot be hydroponically cultivated, but I wonder if that system works because I’m guessing you can get about 95+% humidity. Do you think the rocks would be more likely to contaminate the cakes, or are the cakes pretty safe after they have been birth?  If anyone has ever successfully done this and have pictures that would be great! Thanks

Just looked it up.

It's a glorified fish tank. Don't waste your money

"Filtered air conduit"
Fruiting chambers don't need filtered air.

Do yourself a favor and build a SGFC.

:rofldrunk: clearly these guys know nothing about mushrooms.
Look at the cakes! they have roots in the cross section.

If I didn't have to give them an e-mail address to sign up for their site, I'd rip them a new one.
They're taking advantage of noobs & that's just wrong.

Stick to the PF tek if you're trying to get everything figured out.
www.mushroomvideos.com has the entire process on it for free.

That link doesn't work.
But I know the one you're referencing.
It's where RR challenges us to grow on liquid.
Well...

^^Enoki gold growing from LC...Not really hydro, but still, crazy.

I've seen hydroton used before w/ success, too. but jeez.

It's common for small mushrooms to form on the layer of crud at the top of a long-neglected liquid culture.  Such is not hydroponics in terms of the free microscope contest because the mushrooms are consuming solid food.  Hydroponic in the contest sense meant someone had to grow a 10 gram mushroom on an inert support base while using only chemical 'nutrients', not solid-food based such as grains or malt, etc.

You'll start to notice the mycelium strands from your cakes aggressively growing into the oxygenated hydroton. The resulting capillary effect injects the cakes with hydrated nutrients.

I don't think so.

I have seen pictures of cakes without the foil in a SGFC sending strands of mycelium into the perlite. Not roots, I know, but would strands of mycelium coming off of a cake draw water from a pool of water back into the cake?

No. They'd be rhizo growth, the first stage of pins.
They're seeking out the most optimal conditions for fruiting.

I live in an area which is very humid and kind of cold. My house stays at about 60 degrees so I built this.

Take a sterile sponge, soak it in grain water with gypsum. inject some LC into the sponge, and see if it will colonize, then fruit it. By definition that's growing hydroponically. It might or might not work.

That is not hydroponics.  Grains are solid food.  Grain dust suspended in water is solid food.  Many of us have seen small fruits forming on grain LC, and I've been posting pictures of fruits on agar for years, which is also solid food.  Sponge is solid food too.

When someone takes a rockwool cube or similar synthetic substance(not vermiculite-it's solid food too) and places it in a chemical solution without grains, rice, etc., and grows a ten gram or larger mushroom on it I'll kiss their ass, because it would be akin to sending a human into space without a space suit or pressurized vessel.  It just ain't gonna happen.  Anyone who claims otherwise does not understand fungi.

Those aren't roots,its mycelium.

And its called hydrofungal farming. First proposed in 1962.

Hydro(not hydroponic)simply means with water or fluid.

Hydroponic means to grow plants without soil, it doesn't apply to fungi.

And yes, hydroponic and hydrofungal can use organic nutrients.

Really though, its a laypersons term. Get off your high horse!

Oh and don't forget the species of mushroom they recently found growing underwater.
