Wbs contamination question
    #15905543 - 03/05/12 07:31 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

If I've got some sterilized quart jars of WBS, and I noc em up etc, will I know during colonization if I've got a contam up to that point of the process? I mean, is it possible for me to have improperly prepared wbs jars that are contaminated, colonize 100% with no sign of green, and yet turn green after spawning due to bad wbs procedure? I hope that question is clear... :smirk:

Most contams will show up after the 20-30% shake.

Thanks for your response man. So you're saying that if jars colonize 100% with no sign of green, and then turn green while tray is incubating, it is most likely not due to bad wbs prep?

Probably due to improper pasteurization of your bulk substrate, yes.

Excellent. Thanks a lot dude. That's going to help me out. Usually do a 90 minute pc of coir/verm/gypsum/worm castings.... I'll focus there. Peace.

The PC will sterilize your bulk sub and leave it more vulnerable to contamination than pasteurization. You want to heat your bulk mix so all of it reaches 150F and maintain that temp for one hour.

Awesome guys. That's gotta be where I've been going wrong. Sometimes it works out good, sometimes it goes green. I will read up on proper pasteurization method and go that route from now on. Big thanks fellas.
