I've always had great results with a basic Potato Dextrous or Malt Extract Agar. Would all depend on what strain of mushroom you plan on growing and what its nutrient requirements are. PDA should serve well for about anything though I would imagine.

Yea cubes love PDA. Are you using a spore syringe or spore print? If its from syringe I'd recommend going strait to BRF cakes and not even bothering with an agar process.
If your worried about keeping your operation going long term and always having healthy mycelium around just take spore prints from your mushies and use those to make your own spore syringes.
Just my two cents.

Agar is were its at if your looking for wall to wall, dense forest-like flush's. You need to isolate a strain.. I have been doing agar for a while now, ill never go back to MS.. All my innoculants are made from spores to agar, I isolate 10 or so strains, test them, and pick the best one.. Use pf jars to test them, make sure you label things really good. Then you can go agar to grain, or make a LC if you are using BRF cakes.

I am starting to prefer plain old brown rice flour.

You mix it with water till it's a thick soup ish concoction.  Pour thin layer in petri.  Pressure cook for 30 minutes at 15 psi.  Remove.  inoculate.  Voila.  I can't see regular agar looking any better and it sure is a pain.  In fact I like the growth better on BRF.  Here is a side-by-side, both started the same day (on 2/28/12). Malt extract agar on left, brf agar (actually agar-LESS) on right:
