Should I chuck it? Tiny Red Spot
    #15915063 - 03/07/12 05:25 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hi all,

First post on shroomery here, but i've been lurking for a few months. Pity my first post has to be in the contam forum xD

Anyway. One of my brf jars didn't colonize fully. Just a tiny spot the bottom corner and it wasn't gonna colonize, it seemed too wet, so I cut a small portion off.

The cakes are fruiting atm.

A tiny red spot, light red, appeared on the surface I cut. It did not look like lipstick. I ran out of alcohol so I couldn't sterilize the knife I cut it with but I cleaned it the best I could. So that's what worries me.

Funny thing is. Precisely where that spot was, a bunch of fruits have started growing. There's only a few pins on other parts of the cake.

I would have took a pic but obviously I cant now. So i'm just a little paranoid about eating anything from that cake.. I don't need paranoia when i'm getting high xD

The fruits look healthy and no other signs of contam. The other cakes are doing great.

First flush off the first four cakes looks huge and its my first grow so i'm happy.

So should I chuck it? Thanks

You sure the spot wasn't a pin starting to grow?

Yea. Pretty sure. It was there for a good week and a half. Just looked like a red marker spot on the mycelium.

Well if there's nothing there now I wouldn't toss it. It could have been some metabolites or something.

I let them grow anyway. 50grams fresh off that cake.. they seem good. I cut into the cake a little and there is no red where it was last time so they should be fine I think. Any thoughts?
