Hey guys, I got 8 cakes that have just finished their 2nd flush. I added two trays to the same fc that the cakes were in a week ago and the trays are almost done with their first flush. Anyways, I just noticed today that one came had the mean green on it so I quickly grabbed it put it in a bag and threw it outside. Am I screwed with all my other cakes and two trays as well as my future grows? What should I do in this position since I have other stuff going in the fc? Is it doomed, not sure how I could clean in the fc if there's other substrate fruiting? What would you guys do?

Are future grows ruined, no! but you have begun a battle my Friend, with a very formidable enemy at that.
as for the cakes that remain in the FC; the may go bad, they may not.. keep an eye on them and try to be as sterile as possible when ever opening etc...
If you have fresh cakes etc.. that need a FC but have not been introduced yet, i would suggest making another FC. or waiting the cakes out and doing a complete sterilization of the FC before introducing new cakes, otherwise you may very well be dooming them from the start.
this may be discouraging but keep at it, you'll get it down
and remember... BE STERILE!!
you may very well have to go bananas on your area with lysol and disinfectants to regain your territory... hopefully its not that bad yet tho. wage your war

I had a jar that I didn't put dry verm on top, and it got the mean green half way through colonization. The myc and mold are fighting each other for food right now. It's cool as shit.

contaminants come from within from my experience. my fruiting chambers are not in the cleanest environment at all. they are in my bedroom which isn't very clean. But my cakes don't contaminate. it would just try to be more sterile during the inoculation process, and have good gas exchange filters during incubation and you should be fine.

the first cake i found green on i immediately pick it up put my hand in front of it so air wouldnt blow on it and chucked it out the door, then i ended up noticing more greeen on the cakes so i sprayed them down in the fc with straight bleach water and slowly picked them up and put them in a plastic bag and threw that outside then today i just said fuck it and put a plastic sheet around the fc and took it to a store industrial dumpster and tossed it out completely. I dont want to chance contaminating my area cause i have a tub thats fruiting now hope to god spores didnt fly everywhere. within the 24 hour period i havent notice any green in the other tub thats on the other side of the room so i guess will see if the spores went everywhere or not.

Just a suggestion - adding vinegar to your 10% bleach will lower the PH and make it much more effective as a disinfectant. Mix bleach & water, then add add as much vinegar as the bleach you used. Be careful though, supposedly it releases more chlorine gas doing that - be ventilated or wear an organic vapor mask. More info

-from my exsperience.. mean green and other similar molds dont really smell a whole lot, atleast not in there early stages like when they first appear..
however- bacteria's tend to be smelly and IMO are alot worse then say mean green or cobweb.
having issues? jc
