    #15913036 - 03/07/12 08:36 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Does anyone know any readily available substitutes for Damprid, or Drierite, or something like that, that could be found relateively easily in a German city?

Oh, would vermiculite be hard to find?

Thank Yall Kindly

You might not be able to find damp rid but you can definitely find Calcium Chloride.

Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate)  will work too.

I know verm isn't a desiccant... it was a separate question.

Okay Calcium Carbonate is the same thing as Damp Rid right?

Amazon has all varieties of desiccants. I'm sure at least one of those companies will ship out to Germany.

Frag im Baumarkt nach Raumluftentfeuchter

What you want has white pellets or kernels of Calciumchloride. The package has a warning on the back saying "X reizend".
And Vermiculite is usually in the reptile or terrarian area of zoo shops, just as coco coir. (Humus aus Kokosfaser)

Ha thanks guys!

Are syringes and needles hard to get? Canning jars? Polyfil?

I'm sure it exists, just wondering about availability

It all depends on where you look. i've found syringes from looking in science stores as well as gotten many from ordering spore syringes. canning jars are so easy to find. any hardware store or large retailer will most likely sell them. Polyfil can be found as sythentic pillow stuffing, if all else fails buy a pillow with sythetic stuffing and cut it open.

as for dessicants; i just recently ordered them on ebay. i got a bag of 50 for only a couple of dollars. so do some research and just look around

I get the syringes and needles in the pharmacy. I usually ask for blunt needles and tell them I needed them for microscopy. Some don't wanna give me though... (As if any pharmacist could keep a junkie from shooting, I think this is quite irresponsible because then I'll have to shoot with a dirty needle  )

Polyfill don't know maybe from Baumarkt too. You could ask for "synthetic Kissenfüllstoff". I use viscose (synthetic cotton), I found it in dm Drogeriemarkt.
Pint and half pint jars I got in the Haushaltswarenabteilung at the EDEKA Center.

I got Verm and Coir from a Zoo-Shop, Polyfill at the aquarium section at the Baumarkt. If you are looking for Perlite, try google "Isoself" from Knauf.
