Primo whole grains of all sorts. Not enough room to keep it. I constantly lie to people to get them to eat my dumpster scores. I just tell them, it was discounted at the store so I bought them cheap. It works lol. If I actually harvested everything that I come across in the dumpsters I could probably feed at least 5 families.
You don't have to lie about it, dumpster food is a new and interesting culinary experience to many people. The first time I ate dumpster food my friend told me it was from the dumpster, and I thought he was joking. It tasted so good, definitely could not have come from the dumpster. Within weeks I was jumping into dumpsters myself. First the chocolate dumpster. Then the bread dumpster. Then we went to the camping store dumpster and there was nothing in there so we tossed my friend inside and rolled it down the street for awhile.
Oh yeah, I do have to lie about it. About half of my acquaintances are down for DD stuff and the other half isn't. I plan on waiting for a couple years of the lying and then telling them. Hopefully by then they will realize it's not a big deal. Also that it's an amazing hobby to get into ! I love garbage cans. they are full of great stuff.
It just breaks me little soul to see the kinda stuff people are willing to throw out. Do you think america is the worst when it comes to waste ?

I'm so sick and fucking tired of plastic. I avoid it for the most part and do a good job at it but damn. Sometimes I just gotta use it.

Jut call it reclaimed food instead of dumpster food. Then you can feed it to people nd they will eat it willingly.

I dont get why the scrooges compact the good stuff instead of giving it out to the food bank. The people who use the service dont have enough money to afford in the first place so the company isnt missing out on anything. Makes me feel like lighting thermite on their compactors.

I have a burning desire to monkeywrench every trash compactor I encounter.
One of my favourite parts of dumpster diving is that it is so easy to gather a surplus of food together that it makes giving this food away just as easy. Lately, I've been filling up a backpack and then making the rounds to severals friends houses and giving them a couple items, hanging out a bit, and then continue continue--the whole thing is great.

You sound exactly like me man. When I drop stuff off to my friends are there are other people there they get sooo confused. I don't even explain it. Just tell them that I have extra. Some people have a very hard time wrapping their minds around the dumpster food and even just gifting food. One time I gave a friend 5 bottles of amazing IN DATE spaghetti sauce and he says "what am I supposed to do with this?"

I checked out chipotle, but I went too early. There were still a lot of employees around, and it is going to require a fence jump to get to that tasty food. Maybe I will try in an hour.

Well tell me the best places to hit up for dumpster diving. Grocery stores, bakeries, donut stores, electronic supplies, McDonalds?

grocery stores without compactors.
my brother used to go through the local pharmacy. Find duplicate labels, call up asking for a refill on 100 xanax pills and go pick it up.

That is amazing. was that in the US, and pre or post patriot act? Ever since that nonsense, you gotta be careful. They might water-board you or worse if you caught...

In my experience: bakeries, grocery stores, supermarkets, coffee places (tim hortons to starbucks), pizza places, and superstores have the best dumpsters.
Restaurants will have food, but it is generally all just one big mix tossed with scraps into a bag, while the options above will often have clearly separated and essentially untouched items.
Part of the fun with dumpster diving is the hunt for the right dumpster--but once you find it you are like link opening a treasure chest.
Simple thing to remember, if they stock it up front--they are tossing it out back.

As for material items, I haven't done too much myself--I'm a pothead with munchies, but off hand: residential neighbouroods during 'large item' trash days, and college/university campuses come semester end (simply look up both dates online)

Chipotle was a bust tonight. I went to 3 locations and didn't get anything.
Location 1 part 1: Two and a half hours after closing, employees were still there.
Location 2: Dumpster shared by lots of businesses, all the chipotle bags were full of trash.
Location 3: Dumpster not accessible. Seemed to be in a locked underground parking garage.
Location 1 part 2: Employees finally gone, but nothing useful. There were lots of bags and I only checked six or seven on the top. I didn't stay too long though, it is on a busy street and cops go by every few minutes looking for drunks.
I'd love any advice from anyone who has successfully found food at a Mexican chain.
