Find a mixture of bleach and water - I don't exactly remember, but I think it was 1/10th bleach.

By Lysol is pretty easy to acquire, just run to your local Walgreens

I just use water in a spray bottle and wait ten mins for it to settle. Its more important for the glove box to have still air then to be sterilized with lysol. I use lysol before and ran out one day, I tried just misting it with tap water and waiting for that to settle and I didn't notice any difference from when I was using lysol. Every once in a while I clean the sides of the box with ethanol though. Try using water and see if there is a difference if not, then you'll be saving some money:)

P.S. I work in a basement with 2 cats that is fully carpeted.

I use different things.
water could work but be shure its fresh water in a clean bottle, water tends to stagnate quickly.
for g2g I use lysol, inoculation I use bleach solution (because of alcohol lamp) and when I am using agar or preping a lc I use a h2o2 solution.

I have read some people just wash with hot soapy water and close it up still moist and warm after 10 min all the contams should be settled at the bottom

I used to go crazy using everything from alcohol to bleach to vinegar mixed with peroxide.

Know what I use now?  Water.  That's it.

First, I rinse my SAB (doesn't even have gloves attached to it, just a box with two arm holes) out with water in the tub.  Then I set it upside down so the opening where the lid would go is on the countertop.

Then I take a spray bottle and spray all the sides with a fine mist of water, then I make sure to spray the countertop down really well with a fine mist too.  Then I cover the arm holes with saran wrap, wait twenty minutes then go to work in it.

I should mention that I do everything from everything agar related (pouring agar plates to doing agar plate transfers) to g2g's in my SAB following this process, and with a virtually 0% contam rate.

The principle behind why this works, is because the water acts as a "glue" for anything that comes into contact with it inside the box.  Once the air is "still" within the box, and everything has settled down, it remains trapped within the water droplets in the box, and doesn't get stirred up while you're doing your work in it.

Trying to achieve a sterile environment within a GB or SAB box is futile, because even if you did manage to make it so it was a sterile environment, the moment you introduce even the smallest amount of air, it is no longer sterile...this is why we go for "still" air as opposed to "sterile" air.

So just make sure the walls and "floor" of the SAB are moist, and you'll be good to go.

ah.. thats cool.. never really thought of that. i always just used lysol, with the same method instead of water.. my box is essentially the same way.. i didnt have gloves that would fit my hands and work in the box..
