Hey I messaged you on discord but here it is.
My two good friends live in a duplex down the road from me. Today at 3pm swat rolls up 20 people strong riot gear etc.. they raided both residences (two different addresses same building) the upper guy was at work. He isn't arrested and no police contact. His place is absolutely ransacked they took a couple old mushroom jars and left old spore syringes. They also left coke paraphernalia and a few small bags of weed.
The guy in the lower works from home he got arrested. Can't find any info city state or county yet. Family has not heard anything. His residence is ransacked they took his gun (hes legal) and two computers. They left a bunch of other computers and left a ton of weed stuff.
No warant info no cards no paperwork left at all.
The guy who lives in the upper has prior felonies. He didn't have coke just some coke residual on a bullet and a spoon, he had about a half oz of weed. And an old mushroom grow from 3 years ago he never cleaned up.
The neighbors absolutely hate my two friends.
Thinking they may have to do with it? They put up tons of cameras and my two friends smoke some weed outside and sell like 1/8s to a couple people but they don't sell like they used to.
They buy an ounce or something and sell a bit to me or the other neighbors
So the guy who is not arrested is home now in his ransacked apartment. I said call a lawyer asap he said he thinks he should call the police and ask if he has a warrant on himself
Update:
A few days later guy in lower posts bail. Three charges operation of a drug house, manufacturing mushrooms. They found some super old jars in the basement and a couple really old petri dishes upstairs. The guy in the lower has never grown a mushroom in his life. Guy in upper had like 3 years ago. All the jars were empty with grain residue and the dishes had dried up agar. They left a dehydrator and pressure cookers and a ton of other shit.
Can they come back? Is the guy in the upper at risk of being arrested?
So far no one has seen a warrant. We do not know if it was for just the lower or upper or both.

Until you have specifics, there's no telling. With what you currently know, they may have enough to support those charges. Until they get the discovery materials, however, it's impossible to know whether the search can be challenged or whether the evidence is strong or weak.
I can tell you this: just because they may be legitimately not guilty doesn't mean they can't be convicted. They both need lawyers.

Search warrant is sealed 90 days according to lower tenant's family lawyer. The lawyer went to court clerk and couldn't find anyone who had paperwork for probable cause affidavit said it was fishy (again this is what im hearing)
I helped the guy in the upper grow 3 years ago. He pretty much failed at it and its been defunct since
Im leaning towards they were not there for mushrooms but because neighbors saw weed smoking in back yard? Idk if their cameras is enough to get a warrant? If someone was friends with either tenant could they tell the cops they saw something years ago? Or even lie and say days ago and that gets a warrant? Wouldn't a controlled buy need to occur?

It can't be based on years old information. It has to be based on information that offers a reasonable probability that evidence of criminality would be found in the home at the time of the search. Cameras might work. Neighbor statements might. A controlled buy isn't absolutely necessary but would help.

Thanks for rhe the info enlil.
I'm just so surprised. The upper tenant is a multiple felon everyone would expect he would be sitting in jail bit he was at work so maybe just lucky where lower tenant works from home wrong place wrong time. We're not even sure who was named on the warrant or for which or both residences.
They have both been laying low so to say for years because they didn't want trouble then this happens... They literally smoke personal amount of weed and have good jobs now.

"Laying low" doesn't include doing illegal things like drugs (if they're illegal in your state or whatever).

Personal amounts of weed are basically decriminalized here. Not legally but the police issue fines now as a matter of stated policy to have a better image. You can smoke weed outside a bar and have a cop walk past here no problem.

Can an automotive mechanic demand storage fees or get a mechanic's lien if the vehicle has sat for months, without any estimates, diagnoses, or hardly any communication, and no work done to the vehicle?
He knows I don't know the laws, have sentimental attachment to the vehicle, have no other vehicle, and am low on cash (that I live on $350/month after bills).
As of early August, the fee was $300, then arvitrarily jumped to $375, now today, September 1, fees are $400 with $25 for each additional day that it remains there, yet he won't be there today or tomorrow for me to pay him.
State: VA
Edit: Shit, I thought that this was still "Ask an attorney", not "Ask a *defense* attorney". I'm letting the question stand, though, in case anyone knows oe can give me an idea of where to find out fairly quickly.

That depends on the contract you have. He may have had you sign something when you brought it in.
The bottom line is that it does you no good to argue now. Pay him and remove the car. Every day you argue is going to increase the cost. I can't tell you with this limited information whether he is right or wrong, but i can tell you that if he is right, and you just argue, you'll end up losing the car completely. If he's wrong, you can go after your money in small claims afterwards.

Randomly remembered something that happened when I was like 20 and started wondering about it.
I was with a friend and went to a movie that got out at like 1030PM. Got into my car and my friend finished his drink the second he sat down and went to go toss it in a dumpster at the end of the parking lot like 20 yards away. He walks back and immediately an undercover car blocks me and lights us up.
They said it was suspicious my friend had walked to the back of the lot and looked like drug activity or whatever. Obviously bullshit but we didn’t have anything and just let them run our pockets.
While one guy is talking to us the other guy has our stuff and has begun browsing through our phones. Text convos and pictures for sure because he came over and asked about a picture of a gun in one of the phones, and commented on how it was suspicious all my texts and call logs were deleted (which I did as he was walking to the car).
Is that legal at all? It seems like one of these things that technically isn’t allowed but only if you actively tell them not to do it. It seems like jamming somebody up for walking to their car outside a business isnt grounds for something that invasive.
No idea why this popped into my head it was almost 20 years ago.

The FDA recently found that the active ingredient in Sudafed is no more effective than placebo. Does this open manufacturers who market the drug to consumers to any liability for misrepresenting it as an effective treatment for decades?

Real Sudafed which is pseudoephedrine still works for nasal congestion and for making meth. The Phenylephrine crap is bunk, I always go to the counter to get the real stuff.

I haven't heard of this until now. How would you "get in"? You have to prove you used Chrome Incognito?

I read that a creditor can only call you 7 times within a 7 day period or potentially be liable for $1000/call. Is that true or just mumbo jumbo? Asking because a creditor called me 34 times in the last 7 days and I could use 34k
