too much polyfil in wbs jars.....stall or stop colonization?
    #15907574 - 03/06/12 04:33 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I shot up 2 WBS quart jars with 2cc of spores then shook em up an left them in my closet 6 days ago and left them in the closet. Just checked them and theres no growth at all.

Only thing I can think of is either because its winter things are slowing a bit and not enough time has passed
OR
Maybe there's too much polyfil an its hindering gas exchange? Is that possible?

Thanks guys!

More than likely it is just on the cool side...Spores germinate within 3-7days fresh and 7-14 old, thats my average with the two.

And it would nt be a problem with having the polyfill to tight since mycelium requires co2 to colonize its food source. From TMC the optimum Co2ppm's is 2,000 - 5,000 but when it reaches 10,000ppm's (parts per a milliliter) co2 then becomes toxic to mycelium.

That is another reason we're told to (shake) the grain jars at specific points, when you shake them some co2 is expelled and allows for optimum growing conditions.
