4 days into fruiting (first timer questions)
    #15898398 - 03/04/12 09:46 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hi, I am 4 days into fruiting the first 3 cakes that are ready and I am not really seeing anything yet, so I was wondering if you all had any suggestions.  I am doing BRF PF Tek, done everything by the book so far.  I dunked the cakes on Wednesday, let them soak for 24 hours, then rolled in fine verm.  Placed in my shotgun terrarium with dampened perlite, been misting and fanning twice a day.  The only variable that may be off is my lighting.  It sits by a window that gets evening-time sunlight, but still has plenty of visible light during the day.  I can keep it in the closet with a 6500k CFL if needed but thought this might be better because of natural light.  Any suggestions tips are greatly appreciated.  I guess my biggest question is if it is normal to not see any change 4 days after the birth.  Thanks

Did you wait a week after 100% colonization? I think the wait time around here to see pins is about 1-2 weeks. I just fruited my first cakes aswell and its been a week already. What i look for is if the mycelium is getting fluffier and colonizing the casing layer.

Tips? Mist+fan alot more than twice a day. Make it 5 times a day. Evaporation and fae are the biggest pinning triggers.

If you didn't let them consolidate long enough, they'll likely continue to do so until ready. However, even when ready it may take a few days to see any pins. Humidity is important, but FAE and water evaporating from the surface are bigger pinning triggers. If you're giving it all the triggers you can, then all you can do is wait and see. I've had some that took a while to start pinning, but when they did they really took off. Genetics plays a huge factor, so don't be discouraged.

What is the temperature and humidity? Like every one else said, fan more so its gets more FAE. Also be patient. If they werent consolidated, then they will do so in the FC and THEN they will begin to fruit.

There's a part of every living thing that wants to become itself: the tadpole into the frog, the chrysalis into the butterfly, a damaged human being into a whole one. That is spirituality.

So it's been almost 8 days since birthing, still not seeing any change.  Is this still normal?  The humidity is in the 90's, it should be getting about 12 hours of indirect light from a window.  I have a ceiling fan constantly running that should be keeping a pretty steady flow of air through the room.  I have been misting and fanning around 3 times a day (it's hard to do more with work schedule).  At this point I'm thinking about just keeping it in the closet with a 6500k bulb on a timer because i feel the light is the only thing that's not constant, but then the ceiling fan won't help.  I doubt the cakes are drying out, but is there a life to these things once birthed?  Do they only have so many days/weeks before they die and are pretty much useless if they don't start to grow?

Thanks

I'd leave your SGFC where it gets natural, diffused sunlight and some airflow.

In the room like you have it sounds superior to the closet.

You are at 1 week .... have faith.  Don't fret until you hit the 2 week point.

good luck to you.
