Ok, thanks. Just following RR to the letter on the trays. Layer bulk sub in with rye spawn, cover tray with foil, poke a few holes for GE, wait until fully colonized. Then, he puts a casing layer on in the vids, but we've already gone over that here. But, I also saw this somewhere else today, so I did an impromptu, thin, verm only casing and levelled that out, then gave it a good misting and left in the SGFC. This bit was just an experiment for me with the extra spawn and coir left over from my mono. So, we'll see what happens. Got the mono-tub and the SGFC w/ the trays side by side. I'll update or move to a journal when I have lift-off.
Thanks again for the helpful posts, all. ~C

I'm not positive, but I think the substrate should be a couple of inches below the top of the tray/foil to allow for CO buildup. Of course once the foil is removed, even for a minute, it could trigger pinning, even on a substrate that isn't fully colonized. Yours looks good though. Keep us posted!

Well, the monotub has started pinning pretty good. 5 or 6 big ones and a good number, more than I'm going to count, that are just starting. It has begun!
The trays are still working. But, they were a few days behind the tub and I added the tiny verm-layer/casing just yesterday. So, they'll be a few days I'm guessing.
I'll see if I can get some pics later from wherever they magically appear on my desktop.

Considering its open air right there, might as well go for it now

Well, If I had a monotub a-growin', I'd be happy with what we're seeing here. Pretty high res for zooming in.
"Big pins, little pins, pins that climb on rocks, fat pins, skinny pigs, even pins with chicken pox..." As for the trays, they're just showing verm, ATM. Reasons already stated in my last post.

Well, sorry no pics... but I, I mean my friend, did get approx. 70g cracker dry from the monotub. The way it fruited was tiring. It wasn't level because it wasn't cased and didn't get the sub quite even. But, it was like 3 days straight, just harvest the mature ones, set to dry, look back and more needed to be harvested, etc., for 3 days. Not a bad way to spend a weekend.
However, the trays that started this thread finally started to pin.
   ^LH Tray^ ^RH Tray^
I slowed them down a bit, unintentionally with the casing layer. I had some med-coarse verm that I wanted to use from a bag that was almost gone. So, I should've scooped out what I wanted and layed it in, but I just poured a pile in the center of each tray w/ just enough to barely cover everything. Problem is the coarse verm had that fine verm dust at the bottom of the bag and that came out with it. So, the coarse layer was great, but the fine dust/shake/residue from the bottom of the bag soaked in to the top of the substrate and set like fuxin cement. (I should've thought of it) Or maybe it just plain wasn't consolidated yet...but they seemed like they were ready to go.
The tray on the left started pinning the same way the the tray on the right is now: from the side, then more across the surface. So, I'm assuming the tray on the right will too.
The EQ spores on rye that were used on the trays have always been a pain in the butt. This is on several BRF runs, LC, and this semi-bulk on rye. They were used because they were listed as a great beginner strain. However, the Cambodian strain that was used for some of the other BRF tries posted previously has performed perfectly, every time. Fast colonizing and good yields. Next up: Ban Hua Thanon then B+, maybe. Or, that's what I hear, anyway.

Really? After all that you pick out that dollar bill from last week to criticize? *sigh*
Well, ok then, Yes. Money is one of the dirtiest things we come in contact with on a day to day basis, being handled by so many people and placed who-knows where. But this wasn't for making a spore print but fully colonized, consolidated, and fruiting rye/coir substrate. And it obviously didn't have any negative effects on growth.
