Visi, doing it the way I describe, you just get the proper ratio (as exact as you want to be, with a meter, by weiging/drying/reweighing, or by squeezing), since the bags are closed, you don't bunk up the moisture content. BTW, don't really seal the bags, just twist them & clip them, (you can seal a zipper seal I guess).

Field capacity is what you're shooting for. Wetter than damp, drier than wet. A handful squeezed hard releases just a little moisture between the fingers.

If using the 6T method, the only problem with moisture I could see would be a slightly dry manure. In that case just add clean water (boiled) to bring to the proper level.

General ratios are a bad idea to go by, some people may have bought scott's from an outside garden center where the bag got water logged, some may have gotten it from inside a store where the bag has never been exposed to elements. I would imagine the moisture level could easily varry by as much as 30% or more.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Actually, field capacity would be too wet.

Definition of field capacity:
"The field capacity of a soil is the amount of water held in the soil when percolation of water down through the soil has stopped. If you think of soil like a sponge, field capacity is like the amount of water the sponge can hold before some water starts to drip out."
