stealth incubator/ terrarium question
    #1588517 - 05/29/03 01:10 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

My friend was thinking about a stealth incubator/ terrarium out of a tv stand. His questons is if he made 2 seperate spaces the top for the incubator heated w/ a heat pad or heat rock and the bottom for the terrarium cooled w/ ice packs and insulate both w/ the pink stuff for houses, would the insulation be enough to keep the two areas at 2 different temps. also will these methods be enough to keep each chamber at its own temp? thanks

It'll depend on how thick the insulation is and whether or not the TV stand itself is a good heat conducter.

If its a metal stand, my guess is that temperature would be difficult to keep in check, but a wood stand with proper insulation inbetween should keep it cool,

thanks everyone, I am hidding them behind a fake back so when you look in through the doors it looks normal. then the back will come off some how not sure.
what if i put tiles and insulation, would the tiles deflect the heat?

Go find some shelves and make a box... put the box over your terrarium and another for over your incubator. disguise the wires. tell no one, and try to not talk about it too much, its the things like that that get you busted. It's hard not to get excited about it sometimes.

Just so you know, you dont need to put plexy grass or any kind of see through thing on the top of your terrarium. They get all the light they need by opening it up to fan 2 or 3 times a day. Now what's more suspicous, a rubber made container or a rubber made container with plexy glass and a light on top of it? Just put the rubbermade somewhere it looks like rubber mades should be and you shouldnt have a problem.
