Will it Work?? Feeding a Cow Spores??
    #1578152 - 05/26/03 10:56 AM (20 years, 10 months ago)

Hey, I've noticed a couple threads that gather around this subject, but no one ( That i've seen ) has actually gotten a straight answer....

If I were to feed a cow spores by placing the spores in water or by placing them in food, would the cow release dung that would actually grow the mushrooms??

OR, could I actually inject fresh dung with spores ( or would older dung be better? )

I've seen a couple other threads that deal with this, but I'm trying to find some sure answers to this question. IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING, PLEASE POST OR PM ME. This information is greatly needed thanks

I would think enzymes in the cows stomach would destroy the spores. Isn't that common sense?

No, it isn?t, particularly since it?s not the case.

I dont think anyone has tried this and thats why their is no difinitive answer. Why not try it and See? I think out of the dozens of poops it would take that would have spores in em, MAYBE a few might release modest shroomies, but i dont think it would actually be an effective way of growing unless you had lots of cows and a couple years to get things going good.

From the outdoor thread in Advanced cultivation

"Cubensis spores fed to cattle in Washington and Oregon State in the spring, produces a few cubies in manure before the fall months in hot rainy spells, howevver they never return the following year. IT is not their climate or region to grow.

mj"

So their is hope...

uhh, washington is in fact almost 'the perfect' place for cubes to grow.

>>Nenni-as to your question about cows and spores-naturally, spores land on grass and such, are eaten by cows, and are NOT broken down in a cow's stomach, because as far as i know, there is no stomach acid like humans, and the multiple stomachs take care of that. the spores go through their system and get plopped out in a pile of shit, all germinated and in the perfect place to begin growth.

i saw that so i was not directing anything towards you at all pdu. and the only way washington could be a bad place for shrooms is if he meant dc because wa. is one of the best places around.

Mobile Bovine Mushroom Machine. Sounds like a great idea. Better to feed the cows the mushies ,or try to get the spores in their food?

OK. I live near some cows. I'll try it. Seems like it would be easier just to give them some dried mushrooms than to try to just put spores in the hay. They eat grass this time of year anyway.

Yeah, since you mentioned that,I have to ask.Do you think a cow would trip? For half a second that sounded pretty damn funny, but I wouldnt want the cows to hurt themselves.
I guess with their body weight,it would probably take more than what I wanted to put into the project, but a second opinion wouldnt hurt. If one of them wandered into the road, that would suck.

>Do you think a cow would trip?

I?m completely sure.
But a cow, since it?s rather massive, would need much more than just a "normal" human dose.
