You guessed right. It's Panaeolus subbalteatus. Look up information on the species and go find it!

go down that one street take a left. go to the 4-way stop sign and hang another left. you will go down this road aprrox. 7 miles. you will pass a house with light orange colored siding and a darker orange colored shutters. pull in the driveway. ring the doorbell and enter the residence. walk in proceed to the office that is in between the kids room and the bathroom. take a seat behind the desk and log into the computer. open the browser and type in www.shroomery.com

then click the FAQ link at the top of the page.

good luck!

From the FAQ:
Quote:

Scattered to densely gregarious-often in small clumps-in manure, compost, and fertilized lawns; widely distributed.

In other words, look for areas heavily fertilized with manure or compost. You might also consider heavily fertilizing your own lawn with manure or compost to provide a good habitat.

The best way to find out where they grow in your area is to go out and look. Expect to look a lot.

When you find some, be sure to note what the area is like. Then go look for more areas like that. Not all of them will have what you're looking for.

You may think I'm being a smartass or something, but that is literally the way I (and, I suspect, most everybody else) find mushrooms.

Good luck and happy mushrooming!
