Raspberry Pi * 1

http://www.raspberrypi.org/#top

£21.60 for a linux computer with 256mb of ram, hdmi output, as well as an rca for hooking it to a telly, sd card reader slot, 2 usb 2 slots, ethernet and it's the size of a credit card.

I dont' know what I'm going to do with it but I'm getting one when my mate gives me my money back.

well, not endless. A computer that uses hardly any poweer, no moving parts, enough grunt to run abiword, but not enough grunt for distractions, but does have sound out if you wanted to listen to music. Yeah, sign me up.

I wonder if i can fit it into a fag packet.

I picked up a PlugPC a few years ago which is almost the same thing but slightly more expensive, slightly less powerful, and slightly bigger.  It's on its second power supply and still pulling double duty as IRC shell and NAS server.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/29/raspberrypi_mania/

Got 600 page visits a second and already both RS and Farnell are ordering in another batch. At this rate I'm hoping rapid electronics, or even ebuyer would order this in.

I can't find what power does it take in. I have a "universal" laptop power supply, rated up to 60 watts and gives out 20V

I think it takes USB power.  5V, and it might suck up an amp.  I dont know?  I think the connector is microUSB.

I have now 'Registered an Interest'.  I guess thats a non-binding way of saying waiting list.

this would be great to run a small webserver (limited to a few clients) or a NAS. The fact that it supports HDMI it just awesome. Ive done quite a bit of work with Aruduinos, Im planning on writing some code that runs on the Pi and uses the Arudino to retrieve sensor values and fire a few relays.

Yeah that sounds like fun.  I finally got an Android based phone last week and am about to start hooking some shit up to my computer to turn on/off on the go.  I've never used Arduinios before (I don't know C yet, only assembly)  but I have done quite a few projects with some PICs.

It would be cool to be able to access the Pi from anywhere, and monitor/control various devices hooked up to a micro.

I ordered mine and got an email today saying it was in-stock, but then it also said the shipping date was April 3rd. :/ Either way I'm glad to have one ordered, but it would kick ass if it shipped this week. Might email them... I want my Pi!

This does sound cool but what exactly can you do with a raspberry pi?

I believe its going to be marketed for education and basic programming ideas to kids.  Hobbyists hope to put various flavor of linux on it and do just about anything you want, as long as you can program it.  I suspect different ROMs will come out catered to different uses.  I have read that its possible it may run a cut back version of android, and also that it may be able to control specialized kinds of hardware for low cost and energy (I was looking at FPGAs).
