Pennsylvania attractions
    #15875443 - 02/28/12 10:11 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I just moved to north eastern Pennsylvania not to long ago for the oil and gas buisines from Ohio and I'm not to familiar with the area. Are there any festivals or fun camping sites that would be a good place for a low dose trip. Preferably something that has to do with nature. Also money is no obligation.
Thanks guys!!

I remember my grandparents used to take my sisters and i to a mountain top where we can pick blueberries and overlook the entire town of altoona.  There probably alot of places like that over there.  My dad said when growing up, cops were so rare it wasnt a worry at all.  IDK how it is now.  How bout horseshoe curve? lol

I live pretty much in the middle of nowhere in the allaghany mountains and I can honestly say I've only seen one or two cops in the months I've lived here. It's a beautiful state to, just not fun to drive semis in the winter lol

Horseshoe curve is a railroad track that bends around a lake or something in the mountains over there. Its a tourist attraction.  Supposedly was on Hitlers list to attack if he ever invaded the United States cause it was a major supply route during WWII

I don't know exactly where you're at but I'm near Lancaster and there are tons of awesome places out in the woods.  Big rock formations, natural springs, little swimming holes...  Lots of good stuff to be had.

This website has some cool spots and stuff listed.  Mostly just the ones that everyone knows about, but it'll get you started.

I am grateful that my house is now in the middle of nowhere.  I can see the milky way from my backyard...  I was tripping on acid with my girlfriend on an extremely clear night, well coming down actually but still expanded in the mind, and was losing it because I could feel that I was looking deep into space.  That probably makes no sense, but I could realize the change in depth from some stars to the others, it was not only a 2-d experience...

That same night an extra low satellite flew over and my girlfriend and I could make out all of the panels on it and everything.  It was this type of set up.  http://www.spacetoday.org/images/Sats/MilSats/GPSbig.jpg

Absolutely insane.  Stargazing in PA is the best (though the desert is a pretty good second).

Star gazing in CO has PA beat IMO, but we have it good here too, though not where I live. :frown:

hawk mountain (good one), glen onoko (in jim thorpe - really beautiful nature hike somewhat challenging and a bunch of waterfalls one after another, one is 80 ft tall), bake oven knob, there are some state parks in north western pennsylvania, some good ski resorts - elk mountain probably has best tree skiing (near scranton), not to mention the appalacian trail

I'd say the state forests in northwestern pennsylvania are probably the coolest place I've been to... very peaceful and beautiful.. thats like the cherry spring type area

Potter County is indeed "Gods Country".....almost all state forest with small towns in between. Try Ole Bull or Sinnemahoning camp grounds. You will have to go west but worth the drive.
