LOL!

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

lol LOBO!

Good one!

Actually, I think the axiom needs to be read critically.  I think Socrates was referring to the fact that when we don't think about our life it oftens turns to shit.  He was advising people to think about their actions and their consequences.

Sounds like good advice to me!

that is indeed good advice, but it still reeks of elitism

maybe something was lost in the translation...
and I think a life could turn to shit either way, not examining it, examining it too much...

That is very true.  You probably have know people who have thought a great deal about their life and STILL fucked it all up.

It was not wrote as stuffy as it was taught.  Most people do not like the ancient philosophers because those who taught their truths taught it like it was God Almighty.  It is the teacher's of philosopy's fault.

Socrates was a questioner and always open to new ideas.  But one cup of tea fixed that.
