Next I add my coffee grounds as this mixture will be used for some king oyster experiments and oysters do not tend to do well on just coir alone. Adding 30-40% coffee grounds to your coir mixture (for oysters) will give you better results, but still not the best from my experience.
no need for coffee grounds in coir best thing and only thing needed would be gypsum with gypsum it would be a 3%-5% of total sub

Using the materials that he suggests 95+% of people will have great results, but others will have issues with contamination due to partial sterilization of the substrate, adding items that need proper pasteurization(coffe, manure, etc) or factors relating to the persons environment.
and damions coir tek works because there is no need to pasteurize a coir brick sense it is compressed
another thing i would like to add when using coir it seems that a 60/40 is better then a 50/50

This tek was made to show how to pasteurize substrate and has no recipe for a mixture for that reason. Coffee was added because I am growing oysters not actives and oyster on coir alone do poorly. I stated this all in the original post tho.
Part of the reason damions tek works may intact be because of the compression, but still the tek does not work for everyone. Regardless thanks for adding your two cents.

i've been using d5050's bucket tek but have been wanting to experiment with poo. the write up makes this seem super easy, gonna try it out.
question: why do you put the micropore tape over the area that u then use to cut the whole for the thermometer?

Simply to re-enforce the hole so it does not get any larger.

thank you for the quick reply.
got 2 tubs fruiting now on just coir and verm. excited to try out this method and hopefully increase my yields. i feel like just the coir and verm don't provide enough nutrients. although, i'm pretty sure i fucked up my ratio spawn to substrate
i did one brick coir, 2 quarts verm, and 5 pints spawn. realizing that i probably should've been using 5 quarts of spawn...
live and learn... this is a new endeavor for me

I can attest that this is very true, when I started out years ago I tried the bucket tek on added coffee and horse manure, and it was a total fail every time.

i've never added coffee or poo to the 5050 bucket tek, but was thinking about trying it until i ready so many horror stories and about the need to properly pasteurize when adding to d5050's recipe. i've been successful each time with only coir verm, but noticed i get a lot of aborted pins, as if they're running out of food or something. haven't been able to get more than 3 Os from a tub yet, thinking it must be due to lack of nutrients in just coir verm. i have a nice set up in my room, have thermometer/hygrometer in my bins to check temp/humidity, my recipe is the only thing i can think of that is giving me problems. well, not problems really, but i am going for maximum yield here!
thanks for your 2 cents diesel

Your spawn is also a big part of your available nutrients for your mushrooms to grow from.
