questionable casing questions

hello! a week ago a friend cased 3 jars in a tupperware container. after two days mycelium spots had broken out in several areas, so he thought everything was going well. unfortunately, after the initial outgrowths, there has been a complete stop. he told me that there is a very strong scent of mushrooms coming from the casing, but not that terrilble dead scent that you can get (he didn't know if that was pertinent). he thinks that it could be that the casing is a bit too dry now, but at the same time, it has been quite cold where he lives (the casing is usually being held between 70-75 degrees, which has been a good temperature for the jars themselves before the casing). if anyone could give him a hand with some advice, i am most certain that he would greatly appreciate it!! thank you all for your time.

If you are still incubating...increase the temps to like 85 - 90 F. make sure there is gas exchange.

thanks for your reply! he has the casing covered, so you suggest to open it and fan every once in awhile? thanks for your time again...

place tin foil over your casing while in the incubator and poke a few holes in it to allow for gas exchange

after the 1st 3 days of a casing, the foil should be removed and the pinning initiation should be induced.

www.shroomery.org/index/par/7977 'I would recommend keeping the light off for the first week, but even leaving it on for 12/12 will not make that much difference. Within about 2 days you'll start seeing the mycelium overtake the casing layer, you want to add a light amount of 50/50 mix over these first high spots so all the mycelium is coming to the surface around the same time, although this is not written in stone. Within a week to 2 weeks it will be almost completely covered in mycelium. Then the mycelium will stop growing for a few days.. the mycelium network is establishing itself... becoming stronger and stronger preparing to produce mushrooms. Then pinning will start... .lots of bright white small dots about the size of a pen head.. These will form into mushrooms soon thereafter... Harvest time is usually 10-21 days weeks after casing. As a general rule.. you do not want to mist your casing during this colonization period,. provided you have adequate humidity and fresh air. The ideal humidity for casings is 82% -92%. The reason you don't want to be misting your casing soil. during this period is because water condensation build up on the mycelium is not good.. it will slow the growth down of he mycelium and possible introduce contaminants easier'

After reading what you posted it seems that it just mentions the fact that patching should be done the first couple of days when the myc is poking out, not yet to induce pinning. and then after the casing is taken over then it should be fruited. Am I totally misreading the context of the page?
