Thanks for the heads up, from what i read its a sign of high humidity. Which is strange because the cakes are getting blue on the peaks, which IIRC means low humidity.

UPDATE / HARVEST :
So the cluster I was so excited about actually slightly disappointed today as all the veils are tearing at a small size.

So about 10g wet from the first few ones, now drying on my conveniently top-located computer fan.
Anyway, I had read that amazons may start with a small sized first flush, so not too worried about it.
However, soon it will be time to re-dunk, and I'm wondering; do I shave/dunk when all the current cluster are done opening, or do I wait for the still-budding pins to catch up first?

don't shave anything. Typically you leave the very small pins, like 1/8 inch and try not to hurt them while you gently wash it off under cold water(thats how I do it anyway)

What about the verm layer? Should it be removed or just rinsed? It happens that most my pins are growing out of the top verm layer, so might make cleanup complicated.

a gentle rub with your finger while under the cold water will take it off. Don't scrub it or nothing

Thanks guys. Actually is there a way to know if my cakes are already too hydrated? I read that it could be a cause of early veil opening. Wouldn't want to dunk if they're already problematic.
Then again I suppose they couldn't take more water than maximum capacity from 24 hours in the drink huh..

UPDATE:
So the 3rd and slower cake that was pinning turned out some decent little fruits. Even though #2 was super abundant with tiny fruits, I would call this the first one to have a 'good' flush.
Slow and steady wins the race, I guess

I notice a couple of them have splitting stems, will look into what causes that, I would guess RH hitting the lowish side at night time. But they seem clean and healthy still.
And meet the first mutant (2 stems), I call him daddy long legs.

As for cake #2 that was dunked, all the pins turned back in the water, so were shaved off. The cake is now back to square 1 in a coat of verm. I'm a little worried about contam, because I can't be sure that all the little bits of flesh have been removed... Will the mycelium take over any leftover bits of bodies, or will that just contaminate like crazy? Keeping a close eye on it, fingers crossed.

once a cake is colonized, contams on the surface have a hard time getting a foothold, so you are probably gonna be ok. I alsways contribute the splitting stems to it just growing too fast(were your temps a little on the high side?) It doesn't look like it's a symptom of a problem to me
