Pics from Hunt

On Memorial Day, I went on a shroom hunt in the woods just for the hell of it (not looking for actives or edibles, just looking). This is what I came up with.

A coral species (Clavulina cristata I believe. does this grow out of logs?)

Now this is one we don't see enough of  Coprinus Micaceus...

I am not sure what this one is.

This may be the same species. I truly can not tell. They both have very fibrous stems. The gills are connected on both. The species below bruises blue on the cap. I'm sorry i can not provide a spore print because the mushroom got destroyed on the way home, however, I plan on returning to collect more.

My only guess is that it is some kind of Psathyrella.

To answer the question you had about Clavulina cristata, no, it grows on the ground.

If your coral mushroom is pale yellow with little crownlike tips and it grows on wood then it's Clavicorona pyxidata, which is edible.

Unfortunately, coral mushrooms as a group are very difficult to identify accurately to species, even with a microscope.

Happy mushrooming!

from the look of those last ones and the fact i can see some green in the stem and you claim bluing in the cap, id say you got some Gymnopilus purpuratus. but its not positive

They do. And as usuall I try to tell people to avod the Gyms, not only because of theior bitter disgusting taste but also becasue someone could mistake a Deadly Galerina for a Gymnopilus, although the latter is much larger.

Many people canjot distinguish correct colors on shrooms.
