It's a pagan convention...
I love all of the workshops and lectures here, and there's some good stuff on the vendor floor. (I was a bit disappointed this year, though, because previous PantheaCons had an entheogen vendor with herbs, seeds, and a shitload of amazing books on psychedelics. I picked up Pharmaco/Gnosis, one of the best psychedelic books I've read, at my first PantheaCon. Last time I was there I saw TiHKAL, PiHKAL, and an entire book just about yopo, but couldn't afford them. Nowhere to be found this time. )
That said, those pagans have extremely liberated attitudes on sex and relationships... there's a lot of polyamory and a lot of acceptance of sex for pleasure. I usually get multiple hookups and numbers at these things. The people are extremely laid-back, there's a very friendly non-judgmental vibe. I recommend people check out the pagan community, even if you think it sounds silly. There's a lot more to it than meets the eye, and I'm not just referring to the fucking.
Unfortunately, this thing didn't go down. I went to her room to sweep her up and wound up sitting there for two hours while she meandered her way through packing. By the time she was ready to come get fucked in my room, it was too late: I had made prior plans to rejoin my friends and I didn't want to flake on them.
I'm definitely going to plow her another time, though.

I think this is it. I'm accustomed to dealing with submissive women who simply allow me to take the reins of our social dynamic, and I get to proceed at the pace I find comfortable. When she's the one taking the initiative away from me, it's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is extremely unexpected, and really throws me off balance. It's a really rare exception to the rule.
I also notice that my natural instinct was to regain control over the situation: her number in hand, not having given her mine, I'd let her think for a while that she scared me away, so that she would be grateful when I finally contacted her and I'd have more control over the situation.
Sex politics.
Where was the convention? and pagan is a loose term, I hope it wasn't Wicca stuff... I feel Wiccas kinda screw everything up for the rest of the pagans. Odinism is were my interests are.

There were Wiccans and Odinists and all other sorts of pagans there. And it was in San Jose. (I just got home.)
How do you feel Wiccans screw it up?

Not all wiccans, But with the type of people in my area things get stupid. Wicca here is little confused immature girls trying to Rebel against society and Who don't truly understand anything they "worship" or "pratice" running around playing "black magic", mixing different mythologies and folk lore all into one. "Look at me, I'm a witch!" little pentacle necklace, wearing it in public just -itching- for someone to walk up and start an argument. Then they "correct" you about dozens of things they just learned word-for-word... Wicca is a 20th century creation which combines elements of freemasonry and 19th century occultism.
Also a interesting article I read http://www.odinic-rite.org/main/no-alliances-with-wicca/
Again I don't think all Wiccans are this way. Just the ones in my area tend to be retards and cause trouble for no reason.. Idk maybe if I meet a true wiccan then I wouldn't feel so ill about them.
anyways no hard feelings

I'm sure these people are more serious about the religions/practices.

PantheaCon doesn't have this vibe at all. There's a very even age distribution, and the atmosphere is quite mature and open-minded. People with different beliefs get along very nicely. I made it my practice to call myself a "gnostic Christian" in conversation and I never encountered any hostility.
I don't really see any problem in fusing belief systems and mixing practices. People will do what they gotta do IMO, and there's nothing wrong with syncretism. People get a lot out of this kind of stuff, it's not just knee-jerk rebelliousness. The best ceremony I went to was held by very wiccan-type witches, who had openly adapted the ritual from North African traditions. The cultural blending didn't make the ritual any less enjoyable or less cathartic, and when I spoke to the leaders of the ceremony they were very personable and friendly.
I do know what you're talking about with the rebellious wiccan stereotype, but I haven't really had any experience with this type of wiccan since grade school...

Then there was the Discordian Temple Ceremony... that was legitimately fucking amazing. We made a temple out of altoid boxes and tinfoil while a man in a lab coat manically circumambulated the conference table shouting self-contradictory spiritual directives, then we went through a guided visualization of a nice place to be, having a robot friend, the process of that place being filled with our favorite dessert topping, followed by that place being lifted by the robot and the desert topping used to drown mortgage bankers who have come to foreclose on said favorite place.
There was also food fighting, and one of the Discordians gave me a classy Lysergide bumper sticker. That earned major respect from me.

Sounds more enjoyable, I wouldn't mind checking something like that out. Like I said people in my area get stupid... I apologize if I came off ignorant.

Oh, not at all...
I also used to see Wicca in similar terms, but my experiences with the pagans at these conventions have shown me that behind the antagonistic flavor of its more adolescent adherents, there is a very inclusive, genuine, healthy spirituality. If anything, I was one of the young 'uns here.
BTW, my dad is actually into Asatru, which is how I became familiar with PantheaCon. I find myself (perhaps in an ironic counter-rebellion) more drawn toward Christian ideals, but inclusiveness and syncretism are very important to me - and that's what the pagan community is all about, IME.

awesome to hear. I have a great time reading and learning about Norse culture and ended up finding modern Odinism.

Oh man, that sounds downright cool. I love Discordianism, and attending one of their cerem[fnord]onies is on my life list.
