dman, i dont think i've ever seen a single cake with that much growth.

are you saying u get better results from that than using already wet vermic? why would there be a difference?

looks like u used the "poor-mans pod." did you ever manually fan or just leave that mofo closed until it was time to harvest?

The reason for the dry verm is it sticks to the cake better. (sorry should have said that)

Leave it closed till harvest.

you need to post a how to in the grow log forum for those of us who can't grow monster shrooms ! so those shrooms were grown in a pod ? a rubbermaid ? a ??? help a brother out. and is that pf style ? my freinds pf never looked that good --- enlighten us.

Yep they were grown in a pod.
Pod The reason I coverd in verm is I noticed like everybody else that shrooms come from the bottom of the cake or the areas that you cover with verm. Doesn?t it make sense then to cover the whole cake in verm?

i think that because the nutrient-less verm doesn't become colonized as much, its able to capture and retain more moisture than the mycelial surface.

i bet if u put 1/8'' of nutrient-less verm in the bottom of a PF jar in addition to the top "barrier" level, you would have a similar effect. the verm would stick better than just dumping it on and would be sterilezed with the nutrients.

now the question is how to get sterile verm to stick to the entire surface area of a cake.

so what you did is, you rolled it in sterlized dry verm and sprayed it with steril water? Did you spray the cake prior to rolling?  :confused:

That would be a pain in the ass to try to get it on all sides in the jar. The other thing you were talking about can be found here.

ok. here's a possible modification that may work to get sterile verm around the sides:

first put the tablespoon of dry verm on the bottom of the jar. then get peice of PVC piping just smaller in diameter than the inside of the jar and about 4'' long ( for a 1/2 pint). take a spoon and fill the sides of the jar with dry verm. pour the BRF/verm/H2O mixture down the tube. then slowly and carefully remove the tube, leaving the clean verm on the sides of the jar and the nutrients in the middle. cover the cakes w/ dry verm and sterylize.

it probably wouldn't work but is worth a try.

Bullshit, that would work. Some of the plastic shops sell pipe like the stuff for bongs with really thin walls which could be used. Killer idea.  :grin:

Hey Magash,

I believe I read somewhere that you could sterilize the verm by microwaving for 5 min on high, letting it sit for a few, then repeating the process. Any thoughts on that, or do you think PC is the only way to go. Many thanks for the pointers.

magash, what are your thoughts about dampening the verm in hydrogen peroxide and then rolling the cakes in that?
