1st time Grow just started colonizing *pics* *BRF*

Hello, Just decided to make my 1st post after many months of lurking on here and reading your peoples grow logs and so forth.
Well I decided to start out with the BRF tek and bought some mystery strain syringe from a local head-shop(I did order some off sporeworks as well seeing as it was a Shroomery recommended)
I had no means of a pressure cooker because I'm missing the top for mine so I used the boil method for sterilization was about 90 minutes.
I had 3 pretty big jars so my recipe for each jar was:
1 cup Brown rice flour 2 cups vermiculite 1 cup water (with dry verm layer ontop)
Normally that's enough for 5 half pint jars.

I inoculated them each with 3cc's in front of the oven and put them in a drawer at room temp so between 68-75ish
On day 4 I started to recognize some colonization on two of the jars.

I have prepared a tub for fruiting with a hygrometer. Wondering if you have any personal tips or recommendations, Thanks for your help
1 Month later....
Here are my replacements, I've got one jar at about 90 percent colonization and 9 others close by.

I am not sure about that mycelium, it doesnt look allright.
Your substrate is too wet I think and badly mixed. It looks sloshy and sticky. Next time take care to grind the BRF better and make sure you use a finer grade of verm.
Here are some pictures of what you can look for in terms of substrate:)

Sticky and sloshy substrate is caused by improper preparation and during steaming the rice causes the cake to stick together, causing problems with the colonization.
I am still not sure about whats growing in those jars, I think the OP should consult a TC to get a better look:)

why would there be something covering the holes they need g.e. the dry verm layer is to protect at that point. For the op when you steamed your jars did you put foil over your lid good and tight? could be a reason why its so wet inside and not looking right.

contam for sure...the culprit you shouldn't use cores verm for your dry verm layer it doesn't supply you with any filtering properties

The white line down the middle of this jar is trich. It appears white before sporulating, but not the same as healthy mycelium. It's more of an aggressive bright white. I don't know what the stuff to the left and right of the bright white line is, but it doesn't look good either.
This grow is totally fucked. Get your mix right, especially the moisture content. As the poster above me mentioned you'll need some fine grain verm to use as the filter.

Actually not everyone was a noob. Being a noob is a very new phenomenon. Many people, the great majority in fact, were simply "beginners", "novices" or "new to mushroom growing". Being a "noob" is reserved, and in fact created specifically for and by, the newer, much more lame generations coming about.

Bullshit, ive used coarse verm many times without any issues.

On glass jars with lids I solve this issue by using micropore tape over the holes put since a whole army of script-thieves and noobz have derailed the discussion over the last year by claiming that people be better of not using micropore tape people still run into all sorts of trouble.
Dry verm doesnt filter shit much like chicken wire doesnt catch flies, what it does is separating the moist energy filled midst of the cake from airborne contaminants. Trich cannot grow on anything that doesnt hold energy.
This is why people claim that moving a jar or shifting it will cause it to contaminate, because any dry verm moving around could easily move a trich spore right onto the BRF/Verm mix. Micropore tape solves this issue.
The solution to this simple problem is to put micropore tape over your holes, so that trich and other contaminations cannot even reach the dry verm barrier.
To the OP:
Your substrate mix is too wet and sloshy. Next time mix it better and grind your own BRF with a coffee grinder fresh. I do this every time and it ensures a grade A blend that isnt stale or dry. Fresh BRF is slighly fatty which helps disperse the water better.
Here is a picture of what youre looking for:

Thanks a lot for the great advice, I'm very glad to have not inoculated 10 jars, and only did 3. Good learning start, I will prepare another few in the next few days after I get the mix right. Would I be able to just grind the course verm in a coffee grinder or would that be not a good idea?
