Monotub sub Shrinking
    #15822939 -

so when your sub in a monotub shrinks .... does that mean ur at 100% colonization ?

and no the tub is NOT dehydrated as it has alot of water ontop of mycelium of the surface.

so as soon as i saw the tub sub shrank i put to fruiting... (been in the tub since Jan 25th)
thoughts ?

100% colonization should happen well before the sub shrinks IME.

I have two theories on shrinkage.

1) It's consolidated

2) Some moisture has left the sub causing it to shrink

As for 1, we all know about cakes consolidating and shrinking.

As for 2, where did all the water on the surface of your substrate come from? I can tell you. It came from inside your substrate. As temps differ between the inside of your sub and the air outside the FC, condensation forms inside your tub.

It's the typical glass of ice water on a hot day, or the inside of your car windshield on a cold damp day.

You should have enough water still inside your sub to support this flush. I would dunk or something to replenish water after the flush though.

hope to see pins ... its been about 2 weeks since full surface colonization.

this pic is from Feb 5th and it was 100% ... i was told to wait until i see pins, then fruit... but it didnt pin and it shrank...im kinda tripping now...

You'll see pins anytime now,the shrinking sub is a sign its consolodating, since its in a mono the chances its shrinking do to moisture loss are nil

I'd personally wait for pins

I would personally, the higher the humidity for pin formation the better

Not at all, infact if it wasn't shrinking I'd be worried about contamination

The shrinking means the mycelial network is using up nutrients and is a sign of healthy growth

It all really depends on how hungry the mycelium is but usually within a week

Its hard to tell by the pic but the sub should shrink roughly a half inch away from the sides of the tub and pins will follow again this is just ball park you really can't put a specific time frame on it,plus some genetics like PE and Oak Ridge are just painfully slow sometimes
