Tripping with Synesthesia
    #13550970 - 11/28/10 12:13 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

What would this be like? I think I have a mild case of it, thanks to my dad. I see pictures, colors, and scenes in front of my eyes while thinking of words and numbers, especially weekdays, names, and months. I've heard that tripping often causes it in people who don't normally have it, so will it somehow enhance what I already have? It should be interesting to say the least.

depending on how bad it was it could be like fucking terrifying. You could be the first person to actually trip balls like they do in Fear and Loathing lol

I know it's been done before. Synesthesia isn't that rare, I was hoping someone with experience with this could give me some pointers. I'm going to be extra careful with dosage though.

You dont get a "mild case" of synesthesia, you can have limited or more synesthesic abilities then somebody else experiencing it, but you don't get a mild case of synesthesia.

Not to be rude, but most people do this. It's just associating one thing (the picture, colors, landscapes) with the other (thinking of words and numbers)
I can picture anything while thinking of say the number 6, synesthesia is usually much more specific with re-occuring thoughts

Some synesthesics I've read about and seen, dont just see colors and pictures when thinking about a certain numbers, ect. They are literally bonded on some weird level with all of these numbers and letters they have these weird vivid mental pictures of.

4 can friendly chap who always seems to be wearing red
7 is a mountain with just a little bit of snow on the top
10 is a trickster in a black coat who I'm not too fond of looking at. You get the idea.  strange stuff

Quote:

I've heard that tripping often causes it in people who don't normally have it,

Tripping on certain drugs can give alot of people temporary synesthesic-like abilities. Usually only for a short time like during one song, or while eating a piece of fruit, ect.
It doesn't cause synesthesia, but it does cause temporary synesthesic moments for people.

so will it somehow enhance what I already have?

With or without having synesthesia, taking psychedelics will most definitely enhance whatever it is your feeling.

What color do you see when I say Wednesday? I see light green come in front of my vision, with the letters of the word, almost to the point of obstructing the view of whatever I'm looking at. Friday is red with black letters, Tuesday is light blue with white letters.

Don't tell me I don't have something. I don't get smells from touches or anything, but I have something weird. I've asked my mom if she can do it, my sister, my uncles, nothing.

I think the person who said it wasn't synesthesia might be right, but what is it? Really good imagination? I can't control it though. Wednesday is always green. It's pretty scary while smoking mids though. It's like I saw my whole life on a chart flashing before my eyes.

You might just have a case of mindfuckage  If you add some psychedelics into the equation, then it will amplify to a medical condition known as TMFAS...Total MindFuckage Awesomeness Syndrome :tripping2:

Ehh, to me it sounds like synesthesia is just having poor mental control over the rapid and undeniable associations that the mind inevitably makes with everything (something) relating to something (everything) else. :whatever:

But I don't know. Maybe I'm just being a hater. Everything can be considered something else eventually through SOME type of argument.

There is actually more complexity to it than that. Just one example is this...

The picture shows the matrix on the left how the average person would perceive it. The matrix on the right is how a synesthete might perceive it. It is said that it's pretty much impossible to fake synesthesia. You can get tests done to see if thats what you really have.

I actually began taking this test over the web on this synesthesia site. Long story short, it was too fucking long to take. I'll bet it's not synesthesia though. I didn't really see those numbers in that way. I just heard about it recently, and I don't know much about it. Just assumed thats what I had. My dad has it too.

I'm not saying anyone's faking anything. If their brain makes those associations that quickly and powerfully than it isn't "fake." It's just what they see, but the fact is all visual information goes through the brain and its filtering process before the mind is conscious of seeing the stimuli. They don't want to do it but their brain does it. I can't really see how it gets more "complex" than the sensation/perception oddities that the brain creates.

Someone could easily tell me that I have no idea what synesthesia is like. But, as probably a given with every member of this board, I have experienced induced synesthesia of the mild (medical) variety all the way up until the point where there's no longer any distinction between any senses.

We all experience synesthesia in a subconscious way, whether you ever realize it or not. Some may have their spigot on higher than others, but it isn't some phenomenon that only a few experience. I've had multiple occurrences of it while on psychedelics and while sober. Once you have the psychedelic realization of it, you see it day to day.

Synesthesia is by far one of my favorite psychedelically induced experiences. It shows you that there are infinitely different ways of perceiving the same things.
