Urgent help needed!
    #15813148 - 02/15/12 11:31 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

First of all, hello everybody I just registered here!

Now to my problem: I ordered a mushroom growbox to get into the matter, and there are alot of pinheads on the sides. Here is an email I wrote to the support, where I got it from.

Quote:

Hi ###!
First the box took 13 days before the first pinheads appered (it said
they will appear within 7-10 days) but I believe this was due to my
improper setup (fluctuating temperatures) which caused alot of
condensation.
Anyway I was really happy seeing the first tiny pinheads (8 days ago
now) but on the 2nd day I realized that there was much more going on
on the sides of the cake than on top ( 3 pins top vs ~25 around the
two larger sides)
so I made some black paper frame and bottom for the box to isolate the
sides from light (thinking this might help?).
Now the last 6 days it has been with lightning + heating + frame and
they seem to grow quick, but there is still alot happening on the
sides.
So basically Im worried about the first flush/harvesting. I'm not sure
how to deal with the pinheads on the sides.
If they have the time will they eventually make it to the top ?
(notice some are pointing straight down)
there are 3 pictures, 2 of the sides and one with the light-shield no
photos of the fronts but there are a few pinheads as well.

and the answer which doesnt really help me :S
Quote:

I would advise you to not take into consideration these mushrooms growing in the substrate.

I would do the harvest according to the time that the ones on the top seem ready and collect them when the time is right, and then do a complete flush (trying as much as possible to get rid of these substrate ones although it is really difficult).

so what should I do ?

- harvest the 2 big ones now, then wait for the other ones on top -"flush" and get them all out ?

or

flush and get them all out now ?

I hope you guys can give me some advice :>
thx
Seaser

All the ones who's veils have torn are ready to harvest.
Make a print of one of them so you can start from scratch & learn the whole process.:twocents:

:whathesaid: the price your paying for your growkit + syringe = more then the price you would pay for just going out and buying mushrooms. if i were you id start researching on how to do it yourself.

true but why pay more when you can learn how to do it without paying $50 for every single grow you want to do.. my entire setup cost me $30 and ive grown more then 8 zips from it dry. and i still have more coir, brf, verm, and perlite. growing mushrooms is easy people think its hard because they dont want to take the time to learn.

top ones are out. and I made a print of the fat one ( dunno if I did it right though) just cut it and placed it on tin foil and covered it to keep it from contams.

once I got it all figured id like to grow from scratch too, this is just to see them growing  cause I dont wanna go kamikaze on it and waste time/money. and for 40€ I got a kit with everything to produce a (promised) yield of 400-600gr, thus I get as many free prints as I get during the flushes for later growing

You're going to need a bit of air flow for making the print.
If it's under a jar, just fold a bit of foil to keep part of the jar open a slight amount.

As for a "promise" as to how much the growbag is going to produce, there's no guarantee.
I can take the same MS LC & inoculate 20 jars.
1 monotub (I use around 10 jars per) will produce 12 oz.
While the other one produces 8 oz.
It's all random genetics.

You're not "wasting" your time if you fail growing.
You're gaining experience as to what not to do.

Remove the sub from its box and dunk it for 2 hours or so (I assume you dunked it per instructions, if you didnt then 10-12 hours, possibly more)

Then place it like this: (but dont roll it in verm, pinning has started)

Inside a properly built SGFC (or a clear plastic box if you dont have the time or tools) and install a light. This will allow the side and underside pins to develop and greatly increase your harvest. Fan often and mist sometimes.

I make these growboxes myself and theyre wicked fun to fruit. Learn the PF TEK and you can make them at home using these:

which you can buy at www.sporwonder.com (containers). 25 euro, less than the price for the growbox includng syringe, 35 euros and then you can make 5 of those growboxes and save hundreds.

Dont buy growboxes, make them yourself:)

thank you kdmmontana !
I soaked it in the box for two hours because I didnt have something better at hand, then carefully flipped it on the side and placed it in an 18l container.
i cut out a 4x8cm hole and covered it with 5 layers of some dust cleaning fabric but thers already some space below the lid ( it doesnt close airtight)

the lighting isnt perfect but the thing is just too large and only fits the wardrobe diagonally xD

I will update with results hope it goes well and I didnt contaminate anything :>
thx for all the replys so far, especially for the usefully ones

I'd recommend making a SGFC & putting your cake into that.
That way you get RH up & provide proper FAE.
I doubt the RH is very high in that tub & you have no means of FAE in that tub.
Evaporating moisture from the surface of the substrate is the number one pinning trigger.
