Heating your terranium
    #1580973 - 05/27/03 11:15 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I need to heat my terranium.. but I hear heat will dry it out and decrease humidity.. so I was thinking.. instead of blowing heat in the terranium.. do you think.. say a heating pad at a certain temperature on the bottom of your terranium would work? If not can you give another suggestion.. Cause 70-80 degress F is fairly hot.. I would think at least, its above room temp.

Would using a heating rock, one like you use for pets like lizards work?

Plz post some suggestions or what works for you

THanks

This is what a mountain goat in the hindu kush of afghanistan is using as we type.http://www.fungifun.org/pf/incubator.htm
But using clear tubs as to let light in making it a terarium.
Have a good look through the pf-tek 4 simple minds pages its the greatest.

terrarium

I?ve seen people having perlite and water at the bottom and a heating pad underneath the terrarium .

20-25?C is ok for fruiting.
25-30?C for colonisation.

If your have perlite.. there is no need to hand mist, I found this out. But you will have to keep the water level at a 1/4 inch height or so.. 1/2 may be better. But a good inch of perlite on the bottom will be needed. You should own a humidity meter. one that measures the relative humidity. That will help ya dude.

Well....you suggested the idea with the heating pad...currently for my incubator i have a 4gallon jug filled with water and capped off (glass) sitting ontop of a heating pad in the incubator...it radiates alot of heat. I may put both in a thick bag and do the same for a fruiting chamber.....or...actually....outdoor temps are warm enough to keep everything warm. :P

My final decision is, I am going to get two rubber maid containers, one fishtank heater(fully submerge.) and fill one container with water about halfway to the height of the other container when I put them in each other. The empty container will go into the one with water and I will adjust the temp of the water so it provides a steady 25 degress C atmosphere for the container above.
