Mycobags - Harvesting
    #1580837 - 05/27/03 09:11 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

My mycobags are fruiting and while I have a few large shrooms, I still have many smaller less developed ones in the bag. Do I open the bag and harvest the large shrooms, close the bag and let the others develop or do I wait until there is a consistency amoungst the majority of shrooms in the bag. I am new to ths and could really use some help. Also, what is the protocol for getting additional flushes from a mycobag? Thanks in advance .

Everytime you open the bag you risk that it'll get contaminated, so it's better to pick all of them at once. Then just close back the bag, put it to rest in a colder and darker place for few days and then repeat the procedure.

my friend has had the substrate entirely removed from the bag and exposed to the air for nearly 3 months without contamination. he is on his 8th flush.

Because of the size differences between the various shrooms in the bag, I am thinking that I should harvest the big one and leave the others to develop for another day or two. I have also noticed mycelium on the stalks of some of the larger shrooms. Any issues regarding this that anyone might be aware of? Also, what is the downside to harvesting a little later than one would like? Some of the caps on some of the shrooms have spread open. Once again, thanks in advance.

mycelium on the stems=high humidity.

it has been discussed on this board:

First, potency of fruits may be adversely affected if they are picked later on its cycle (after veil breaks)- I don't know about this, last time I ate upturned caps I had a great time. Second, once mycelium gets into contact with spores it will trigger mycal death-Read it on the board some time ago, not much of a mycologist so I really can't comment on its validity. Hope this helped.

Nonsense who ever told you that.

Thanks for your input. I do have a humidifier in the same room with the mycobags. I am not sure why I do, but even though the bags are still sealed, maybe this is creating too much humidity. Out it goes! Thanks.
