Distiller Info
    #15807920 - 02/14/12 11:54 AM (12 years, 19 days ago)

I was just wondering, I have the kit to make the 20% alochol with the super yeast but I need a good indoor distiller, id like to water that down after distilling and then mix with flavours.

Any good in home distillers on the net?

I have never used that "super yeast," I've only ever used beer or wine yeast.  Bread yeast you get in the grocery store works too.

The process I use for making shine is the following:

Making the mash:
1) Take one of those 5-6 gallon brewers buckets (for brewing beer).
2) Add 7 lbs of cracked corn and 7 lbs of sugar.
3) Fill with water to the 5 gallon mark.  Leave lots of air space at the top.
4) Add 1 packet of yeast.
5) Cover, install airlock, and let sit until it stops bubbling.  1-2 weeks generally.

Distilling:
I bought one of the 8 gallon milk-can stills from milehidistilling.com.  I have messed around with building my own still from things like a tea kettle, a pressure cooker, etc.  But they were all small, didn't work well, and didn't look very good.  The one from milehidistilling is all stainless steel, looks beautiful, and is very easy to clean!

Anyway, you can can a hotplate and run it inside.  I use a propane turkey fryer and do it outside.

The corn and sugar make an alcohol that has a good flavor.  You can run the still as a pot still, and you'll get a lower proof alcohol that retains most of the flavor.  You can also run it as a refractionating still which will make a much higher proof alcohol but without much of the flavors.
