Some Photos of Fringed Crumblecaps...
    #1578802 - 05/26/03 03:21 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

or Psathyrella candolleana.  I found a small group of this species growing out in my lawn today.  I searched my field guide thoroughly in order to ID this mushroom, and I'm fairly sure that I have the identification correct.  The information it gives is right on for what I am seeing... What do you guys think from these pictures?

First a couple live specimens:

Here's a nice shot of one that I picked:

In this one you can see a cap with spores on top of it:

And here are a couple specimens cut in half:

A spore print is being taken, but it's color can already be seen in the third picture up from the bottom.  I hope I am right with the identification, and I hope you guys enjoyed the pics.

I was so happy that all I had to do was go out in my dad's yard to find a new species of mushroom for myself to ID!

If they're not Psathyrella candolleana then they're something that looks a lot like them. Nice ID. Psathyrella is a tough genus to do much with.

Happy mushrooming!

Just as a follow-up, the spore print was a dark purplish brown; just like the book said it would be.  I plan to keep a record of all the fungi that I find, photograph, and identify on the website I created, so these photos and any more that I may take in the coming months will be located there for future reference.  (Sorry the bandwith keeps running out, though!)

Peace,

RebelSteve
