T.B. Blues Jimmy Rogers
My good gal is trying to make a fool out o' me Trying to make me believe I've got that old TB I've got the TB blues
When it rained down sorrow, it rained all over me 'Cause my body rattles like a train on that old SP I've got the TB blues
I've got that old TB, I can't eat a bit Got me worried so, I can't even sleep at night I've got the TB blues
I've been fighting like a lion, looks like I'm goin' to loose I am fighting like a lion, looks like I'm goin' to loose 'Cause ain't nobody ever with the TB blues I've got the TB blues
Gee, but the graveyard is a lonesome place Lord, that old graveyard is a lonesome place That put you on your back, throw that mud down in your face I've got the TB blues
Jimmy Rogers died of TB in his mid-thirties. I only think about it because sometimes my lungs are so fucked, up after everything I've done to myself over the past two decades, that I feel like I'm dying of TB or Consumption, which might have been cool if I was a honky-tonk singer in the thirties...
Don't worry, I'm fine! I don't know why I brought it up. Just rambling, I guess, and I was listening to some old Jimmy Rogers recordings. Didn't meant to be a bummer. Go back to your posting. Have fun!

I dig Beck. He's cool!
Waiting For A Train Jimmy Rogers
All around the water tank, waiting for a train A thousand miles away from home, sleeping in the rain I walked up to a brakeman to give him a line of talk He says: If you?ve got money, I?ll see that you don?t walk I haven?t got a nickel, not a penny can I show He said: Get off, you railroad bum and slammed the boxcar door
He put me off in Texas, a place I surely love Wide open spaces ?round me, the moon and stars above Nobody seems to want me or lend me a helping hand I?m on my way from Frisco, goin? back to Dixie Land My pocket book is empty and my heart is filled with pain I?m a 1000 miles away from home just waiting for a train

Waiting For A Train Beck
Spoken: I'm an alien from another sphere. The thing I like about the Earth is the range of colors: Fantastic to mundane, Brilliant to dull. As I was penetrating ozone, I perchanced to notice to notice the orange peel like quality of the light playing upon the s... the ocean. I gotta go right now. Someone is videotaping me in my spaceship.
All around the water tank Just a-waitin' for a train A thousand miles away from home Just a-waitin for 'n to rain
I walked up to a brakeman Just to give him a line of talk He said, "If you got money, I'll see that you don't walk"
I haven't got a nickle Not a penny for to show "Get off, get off, you railroad bum" And he slammed the boxcar door
Well let me off in Texas A state I dearly love The moon and stars above me And what else?
The first time I heard Jimmy Rogers' original I went nuts. I didn't realize beck was doing covers of old country... he references so many places musically. Maybe I'll go track down some old Rogers LP's.

Ha Ha! He re-wrote Jimmy Rogers!
What album is that from? I might get it!
This one's for people who think gangsta rap is some kind of new thing...
Gamblin' Bar Room Blues Jimmy Rogers
Hoho-heyhey, the gamblin' bar room blues
I went down to the corner just to meet my gal I found her standin' on the sidewalk talkin' to my pal
I stroke back to the bar room to get another drink of gin But the first thing I knew I was reelin', rockin' and drunk a gin
I kept drinkin' gin and liquor 'till way ... When my pal walked into the bar room we had an awfull fight
I reached down for my razor, and then we knocked around But when I pulled my pistol I quickly smoked him down
Heyhee-heyho, ho-hoohoo Hoo-oo-hoo-oo, hoo-ho, ho-hey-ho
I went down to see my baby, and met her on the way I told her I'd have to leave her, I told her I could not stay
I started down to the station and stopped in at the bar There I met a policeman ridin' in a motor car
We both drank lots of liquor, that flatfooted cop and I I thought he would never leave me, Lord, I thought I die
My baby came in to join us, and then it began to rain Then I had to hurry-hurry to catch that midnight train
I laid my head in the bar room door, I 'll never get drunk anymore I pawn my watch and my golden chain, I pawn my baby's diamond ring
Police, police, police, you're just as drunk as me I'll grab that old eight-wheeler and make for the deep blue sea

see you shouldn't have said anything.. I thought you were just being really witty when you posted waiting for a train. Both of those tracks are on Stereopathetic Soul Manure. Its the only beck album I listen to any more really. I think you'd definately enjoy it considering your sense of humor.. (edit: oops, forgot to counter with a beck song from the album.. here's another lungcentric lyric) Modesto Beck You came You went My mind it got a dent I couldn't make my rent Cause all my cash was lent This town is filled With thousand dollar bills Lamenated songs Contaminated lungs Well we read about it 15 times a day Staring through a bag of Frito Lay And I play with the fire and the stove When my eyes peel out And my finger tips get cold Well it's real and it's fake And it's flaming like a snake And she's putting out my face, With the rake Oh honey you knew, That you where my one and only blur Unglued, depressed Your meatloaf in my chest Personality test I failed with the best Well I stomped And I stormed I passed out in your dorm When you hustled me outside I couldn't catch a ride Let the subway trains speak to me now I browsing through the supermarket town And the girls don't talk when I'm around And I'm feeling bad even though nothing's wrong Choking on a breath mint

If you like updated old country, folk, and honk-tonk, I suggest you look into Mike Ness' (from Social Distorion) second solo album, "Under the Influences." Cow Punk -- It's really cool! I have a couple of Beck albums, but I think the one you mentioned is the one I really want, but haven't bought yet. Maybe I'll get it next week, when I'm going shopping for some Smoking Popes CDs... All I Can Do Is Cry Wayne Walker (as performed by Mike Ness) Left my girl in Kansas City Left her crying in the rain Well, I told her that I made my mind up I didn't want to see her again What makes the night so lonely? What makes the night so long? Well, I guess it's just because I'm a man That's done a good woman wrong I can't eat, I can't sleep All I can do is cry All I can do is cry Told her that she was a trifler Told her that she played around But I was just a lyin' man Trying to hide the tracks she'd found Gonna catch myself a flyer One that's Kansas City bound I'm goin' looking for my baby Good Lord, I hope she's still around I can't eat, I can't sleep All I can do is cry All I can do is cry ^^^^^ Cool guitar with a '50s style pin-up girl decal and an autograph by Buck Owens!

Cool! I'll check it out, I've just about worn out my collection. On my way to the fields this morning they had some great meth fiend truck drivin' punkabilly stuff on one of the college radio stations.. perfect for a sunday morning..
I'd post another song but I'm too tired and it'd be too much effort to think, so I think you get the last word there Thanks for all the recommendations!
