can mycelium still grow in wet substrate?
    #1576560 - 05/25/03 03:48 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

just as the subject says can mycelium grow in substrate which is too wet? a foaf thinks he put too much water in his pc and after a few days from innoculation the substrate looks kinda soggy......so is it still possible for mycelium to grow even if the substrate is too wet?

oops wrong forum. didnt realize i was in the grow logs forum. can someone move this to the cultivation forum?

Yes it can. It depends on the extent of the moisture, i.e. how wet they are. If they are a little soggy it shouldn't be a big deal, but if half of your jar is standing water i don't see them colonizing any time soon if ever. Water slows down colonization alot of times. If you have a dry verm barrier, try taking a tyvek filter disk and putting it over the top of the container, then wait for a few days and that should help dry it out a little. Otherwise, don't worry about it and start some new jars just in case. Best of luck.

overly wet substrate can lead to bacterial contamination really quick...if it's a grain it will take on a greasy look when the bacteria attack....

Technically....It grows in honey jars which are pure liquid, so....

but wetspots do cause bacterial contam's quick! and are tough to colonize...
