5th flush; deformation and sporeless....why?
    #1577807 - 05/26/03 05:53 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

a magic grow bucket (of my own design) suprised me with a fifth flush tonight. the mushroom was somewhat deformed and is sporeless. the bucket is about 3 months old now and has been dormant for at least the past month. something just popped up all of a sudden tonight though. why is it deformed and sporeless? is this something special that should be cloned?

Multispore, right?

>is this something special that should be cloned?
Only if you want scoreless fruits.(->something that is sought upon in oyster mushrooms cultivation....)

yes, it was multi-spore. my house has become too dirty to do agar work anymore. i was wondering why this flush came out sporeless and deformed. i have never had 5 flushes before and this one came out of nowhere and it was all messed up. it just kinda blew my mind. what do you think caused this last mushroom to be deformed and sporeless (all the previous ones were normal)?

I think it?s a strain that grew slowly and only developed a fruit now.
It?s not uncommon to have sporeless fruits in multispore inoculations.

So tell me this - is there a difference in the amount of active chemicals between mushrooms that do/don't sporulate?

Because if I'm correct in my assumption, the reason they are picked before sporulation is because when they begin to sporulate they lose potency..

So, shrooms with sterile gills would be more potent if the above is true?

Just a thought.

i dont think its so much they lose potency in the sense that there is a reduction in the amount of psychoactive chems present, as much as there biomass continues to increase while the psychoactive chems stay the same (excluding psilocin degradation.) also, it is my understanding that spore production has little to do with psilocybin production.

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Until someone can prove otherwise, this stays a myth.

you dont want em to sporulate bc they gain more mass when it does so with out adding to potency so youl get more weight without the punch

hmmm, i think you just made a point, they lose weight when they lose spores, so i think it would make them MORE potent per gram if anything. btw, anno knows his shit, so if you prove him wrong, then i give you my respect.

No no no no. Have any of you weighed spores? They weigh slightly more than nothing.. Psilocybe production is at a curve. Fruit size will go up at a contineous rate but the magic production curves, going down slightly near the end.

hmmm...you guys are not debating the really important issues here.

why the hell was i awake on 05/26/03 at 04:53 AM and why wasn't this posted with a grow puppet?

musta been deeerunk.

for the official record, eric does not grow anything illegal. he apparently found some pictures on the internet after a night of drinking and, suffering from alcohol-induced delusions, made up some questions and a story about a magic bucket to go along with the pictures.
magic bucket? what nonsense. everyone knows there is no such thing as a magic bucket.

that is all.
