Morchella, Morchella, and more Morchella...

Well, I finally found the pristine morel hunting grounds I have been looking for after walking and driving miles through the woods looking for the right trees and soil. Basically I had gotten fed up with my old patches that I learned of by word of mouth. Now I have my own secret patch that hasnt been picked over. With others posting pics of their morel finds, I figured I would as well.

3 nice examples of whats out there:

Is it normal to find these all in the same day? I was under the impression that they will appear at different temperatures, but it has been fluctuating. First time I have ever found all 3 at one time anyway. The blacks are still out, but the half-free and the yellows are scarce.

And here is the bounty :

You should have seen how many I left out there! Think I may go back tomorrow and get enough for the rest of the year. Thats all that would fit in my paper sack, and it was getting heavy. Not sure how long I was out for, but it couldnt have been more than 2 hours of picking. Gonna take a cooler tomorrow.   Perhaps I may take the camera and get some "in the wild" shots.

Please excuse me, I have some cleaning and cooking to do.

Wow, awesome find!!!

I believe I found three different Morchella species growing in my mother's woods this weekend, too.  I'm not sure if it's abnormal or not, but I was wondering that myself.

Namaste.

Wow man, awesome score. Looks like you found all 3 of the most popular species. Even found the half-free morels. I'm amazed. Very, very nice

Nice job. The Great Lakes area seems to really put out morels.

Happy mushrooming!

Great score man!!!

I've found all 3 species fruiting in the same area at the same time before a few times too, but it doesn't seem to be a really common thing.

Good hunting

DH
