today's mississippi hunt
    #1577412 - 05/26/03 01:24 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

heres pics of todays hunt, it started raining this afternoon, and I battled the mud to get to the honey spot. These grew within 12 hours, tommorrow is going to be a better day even. Is this common to find 50 or more in the same field day in and day out??? This has to be the only good thing about living in mississippi :P

Nice score. But you should'nt pick that many EVERY time it rains. Your honey spot might be a wasteland in a year.

really? Ive been thumping the caps and cutting them with scissors, I thought that preserved the field.

this is actually a very small load, we found over 300 last week, the field is about 3 acres big.

It can't be good to remove that many mushes from a 3 acre spot EVERY time it rains. Aside from tapping the caps and using scissors on the ones you DO take home with you, it's always good to leave a few behind just to to ensure you don't spend the next year wandering around looking for something that isn't going to be there anymore. Anyways, some mush is soo fucking waterlogged and rotten looking and shit it's best left behind anyway, eh? Nobody wants to chew that nasty looking shit for real. I always just confiscate the finer specimens and leave the rest for the fucking holy ghost.

oh ok, I see what you mean. I always leave the  babies and the too dry for comsumption ones behind. I also wander the field tapping spores into  fresh patties...
thanks for the tips, they are much appreciated.

Tapping the caps doesn't do much of anything. Thats a popular myth that teenagers thought up.

Thumping shrooms does not guarentee another crop. Once the caps have opened within twenty-four hours, the spores necesary to keep a patch fruiting have already dropped.

Thump all you want it does not do anything at all.

yeah i agree with you too, if anyone has ever taken a spore print or just left a cap to dry would realize that thousands upon thousands of spores have already dropped within a few hours of the cap opening.

ITs actually in the millions and possibly billions.

They are like sperm. Givin the right conditions it only takes a couple to mate and spread the mycelium the way sperm does.
