During colonization???

I've searched but have found different answers to the questions.

1st, is it okay if the jars are exposed to light during colonization? Or does it have to be darkness all the time?

2nd, is it safe to remove the aluminium foil from the lids? (I've read that it's better that the holes are not covered, so there can be air exchange).

Yes, preferably with the same 12/12 cycle you would be using while fruiting.

Yes, leaving the foil on will disrupt gas exchange and slow colonization or even stall it completely in some cases.

Ambient indoor lighting or indirect sunlight can be beneficial for colonization.  The Aluminum foil thing is a myth.  I guess if the aluminum stays really tight on the lid and you rubber band or tape it down, then it would interupt colonization, but I leave the aluminum foil on top, loosely, and it is fine. Jars colonize just like normal. It does require a tiny amount of air exchange.
