Progress Report - Fruiting
    #15764085 - 02/05/12 11:52 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Hey all, it has been a while since I posted about the beginning of this project. Colonization took well over a month due to low temps ( I finally got a space heater for my "special" room  and it dramatically increased colonization rate at the end).

So here I am, I have 2/4 cakes showing fruit, the other 2 should have mushrooms popping out any day now. I feel like my first flush is going to be small. The first cake only has 5 or 6 mushies growing out of it. Check out the pic and tell me what you think!

Those are some good looking mushies man! Also, props to you for covering the entire cake in verm, i was never able to do that for some reason!

Thank you! I pretty much followed the BRF-Tek video verbatim as well as applying some things i read on these forums. I ended up with 0 contams too which was great. I lost one cake cause i broke it in half but I probably should have kept it...oh well. Anybody know if my flushes will pick up? I am planning of "dunking-and-rolling" between each flush to increase their yield.

Oh also, Swwert, I forgot to mention that to get the verm layer to stick, I let the cakes sit with dry verm for a few hours before wetting them with he spray bottle for the first time. I think that has a significant effect on how much stays on and how much washes off when you mist.

Good to hear, but ive graduated from cakes
Was the cake that broke 100% colonized? If so, you could have just fruited it broken

Ya it was 100% colonized, I knew i should have kept it. :frown: I have the tall narrow canning jars so it was difficult to get the cakes out. Lots of bruising on some. Next time I will get the wide mouth jars. I hear those are much easier to work with.
