Harvest day guys yay! I've had problems in the past though, even in a bag and jar mushrooms have gotten bendy and went bad. I don't want to take any chances. I was thinking of buying some silica gel or damprid (not sure which one to choose) and making a desiccant chamber. But would a desiccant chamber be alright to store them for a month or two permanently? How do you guys keep your babies cracker dry? I live in Florida so the humidity is a bitch!

I use a really big glass jar with some damprid in the bottom. Then I put a smaller glass jar full of the already dried mushrooms inside the larger one and screw the large lid down tight. I've stored them for over a year like this with no noticeable degradation. This is of course for smaller batches.

Quality double zipper zip locks will hold you for that long, once they are cracker dry! If you want longer, then Vac Seal them... Or substitute oxygen with co2 by using dry ice...

Damp rid dissolves in the water that it absorbs, so it ultimately turns to liquid. No good for desiccant packs

1) Dry shrooms in a food dehydrator with a temp control till cracker dry.
2)Bag them up.
3) Place absolute desiccators in the bag and seal. (To make them, take Epsom salts and bake at 450 until it stops sizzling and turns to a white foam. Let cool to room temp, crumble to a course powder, and place in paper towels.)
4)Allow the dessicators to work for about 48 hours.
5) vacuum seal the shrooms and store in the fridge or freezer.
