antibacterial/antifungals in autoclave bags
    #1576254 - 05/25/03 11:49 AM (19 years, 10 months ago)

hey shroomites
recently i aquired several autoclave bags from work thinking they would be ideal for preparing bulk substrate.  these bags are rated to withstand temps up to 140C and after autoclaving a green "biohazard" ensignia appears to show you that the bag has been treated at  proper temp/pressure to sterilize whatever is in the bag. Now this is my problem, does anyone know if these bags contain any antimicrobials or antifungals? after i PC it seems like the dye has run fom the ensignia....ie, if there is any extra water in the bag it is tinted green. does anyone know much about autoclave bags.....should i ditch them and go back to trusty old jars??? i have prepared  a bag of poo, a bag of corn and a bag of millet but none seem to be caatching? so i'm thinking it's something to do with the bags....
lates

None of the autoclave bags we use do that, but isn't the logo on the outside of the bag? It's just to tell if enough steam has been processed; no antimicrobial stuff; kind of like autoclave tape. I wouldn't let any die get inside of the bag, though -- who knows what it might do (turn your shrooms green?)

Maybe reccomend a new supply source....
