You guys mind if I just ask a question here? I couldnt find the answer with through search.
Are there any risks or disadvantages when using micropore tape to cover jar holes?

Your limiting the gas exchange a little, in exchange for more protection against contaminates.

i assume you are using the Pf tek. the vermiculite barrier is enough for your cakes during colonization ,taping the holes will give you little GE ,i would suggest you didin't add any on the holes after inoculation .

If you are having problems with condensation making your dry verm barrier wet and mycellium colonizing the verm layer then I would suggest using the tape. That was a big problem I was having and it was causing my cakes to contam. If you dont have that problem then no tape is fine. You be the judge

First couple batches worked beautifully next 3 I was getting at least 4 contaminated jars out of a batch of 12. I thought it was maybe the high humidity. in the room because that is where I fruit as well. So I run a dehumidifier in the room. Didn't change a thing. ><
