anyone heard of bio computers?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biocomputers

well haha I don't believe that will occur any time soon. Genetic engineering is only so strong, you need to engineer enzymatic pathways, by engineering enzymes, that change biochemistry. It's about as bad as engineering a new microprocessor I'd say, although it's about the same as engineering a new microprocessor and each time you want to multiply a core, you need to create brand new architecture from the ground up from the first processor ever. Actually chemistry is not so bad, you have your periodic table, but biochemistry, well there are biochemicals we have not even heard of yet. A really nice basic amino acid is lysine, and there are even more basic amino acids, which form other proteins, and then more complex bio chemicals such as adrenaline and for example things like tryptophan which is involved in the biosynthesis of what makes you sleep, I forget my mom used to take it, then there is seratonin, which is an indole molecule I believe. I forget my chemistry to quite a degree. Anyway, There are ways we can genetically engineer almost any medicine now, if enzymatic pathways can be discovered to engineer the molecule within a plant, animal, or more simply within a bacterial culture.
I'm not against genetic engineering, but I do have my morals.

Biocomputers are already here... humans. (and animals.)

I remember hearing about some success they had though with merging silicon chips with neurons from a rat's brain. The neurons were able to fix damaged silicon and set up a new circuit or some shiznit...

Biocomputers do exist in anything that has DNA.  Various interactions with complex folded chains of proteins interacting with DNA/RNA/MRNA... that produce the proteins and structures in any organic structure.  The code encoded in DNA is not completely understood so there is probably fault tolerance and other computationally important routines that are present in DNA that we just don't understand.
