how sterile?

how sterile are we talking when inoculating spawn bags with spore solution?
before hand i turned off the ac and closed the vents. i wiped down the work area with bleach then alcohol wipes. i also sprayed anything i was going to use in the process with lysol. i then sprayed the entire room with 3/4 can of lysol including the clothes i was going to wear. after i sprayed i took a quick shower and put on the lysol sprayed clothes.
i also kept the needle wiped down with the alco wipes and kept the tip of the needle in an open flame for a good 5-10 seconds then wiped it down again with the alco wipes. before i injected the spores i wiped the injection port down with the wipes. as i pulled out i wiped the needle again. did a rinse and repeat for 6 bags.
was this over kill or is there more that i could have done?

Sounds like you have a good sterile procedure. It never hurts to be too sterile! Lol
I do prefer Oust over Lysol FWIW

i read somewhere that the needle needs to be covered with alcohol 100% of the time accept for when its over the flame.

I've only flamed my needles 'til the tip glowed red. Never had a problem with flame alone.

hmmm that might be overkill. the alcohol needs to evaporate before it accually kills the bacteria cells. when the alcohol penitrates the cell wall then quickly evaporates thats what kills it. so 100% of the time would not kill much.
flaming your sharp will sufficiently sterilize your needle if you did it right.

the needle never turned red hot, but it was over the flame for a good 10 seconds.

eh....... it was above the flame. think all the bags will get contaminated? i was worried that if i left it any longer the heat from the needle might of melted the plastic on the syringe.

Once you push a drop or two through, the needle will be cool enough not to melt the bag. The plastic part of the syringe won't melt

Didn't say that at all. I'm guessing they'll be fine! Just flame the tip red hot in the future.
Good luck!

I do prefer Oust over Lysol FWIW
Oust is for the air. Lysol is for surfaces.

Yeah I flamed my needle for maybe 20 seconds or more and did it again before each bag until red, even after the tip turned red I kept the flame under it for a little bit, then ran a alcohol wipe along it to cool it down (you can squirt a bit of spore solution out to, that's what the instructions recommended) otherwise you could melt a hole in the injection port and it won't self seal.
Otherwise I followed pretty much the same procedure, cleaning workspace good and spraying the air with lysol good before each inoc (i got the anti mold/allergen kind but also kills bacteria), wore a dust mask and latex gloves which I would spray with disinfectant and dry with a clean paper towel between each inoculation.
Id wipe the injection port down good with the alcohol wipe then let it sit over it while I sterilized the needle then wiped it a little more then inoculated as quick as possible and dab the hole with the wipe again.
I also took a shower before I did all this and put on some clean clothes right out of the dryer, lol. Hope I don't get any contams!

I use Oust as a surface spray as well as in the air. Either it works or I've been pretty lucky! Lol

It was wayy of an overkill IMO. Ive never sprayed lysol, wiped down my work area, or anything like that and have had 100% success rate so far. I was my hands with soap and hot water, dry them with PAPER towels, moist my hands with alcohol and let it evaporate, flame the needle and inoculate. When I flame the needle I start from the back and make sure its red hot, then work my way to the center, and make sure its red hot, then the tip. After, I DONT wipe the black soot from it, I inoculate like that, then when I will inoculate a different jar/bag, i do wipe it with alcohol then flame it again..
Like some people said, it cant hurt to be too sterile.. but spraying down clothes, sparying 3/4 can of lysol, taking a shower.. its just a bit much
