Is this a contamination? I have a sinking feeling in my gut that it is.

That growth on the top, the right side. It doesn't exactly look snow white to me...

Looks like the mycelium is growing over the verm layer. Good luck with the grow!

I hope you're right. A few of my other cakes already have pins so I don't want one cake to sabotage the others. I have a paranoid personality.

You'll be fine. You should probably look up pics of Trich here on the forums, it might help you differentiate between contaminant and mycelium.

It was contaminated. I just checked it right now and it was a lovely shade of blue-green. Cracked the cake open and found an area of uncolonized substrate the diameter of a silver dollar. Sigh...

Sure it didn't bruise blue-green from touching it? The center being not completely colonized could be expected if you birthed it immediately after the outside finished colonizing.
Either way I guess it's not much good now.

Yeah I'm sure. That mycelium grew out to the verm and went from snow white to blue-green without me ever touching it.

If you hit it directly with water it will turn bluish-green. You don't necessarily have to touch it.

Possibly. If you're ever unsure if it's mold just take a close look at it, or even better use a magnifying glass or mini microscope. The texture of molds are usually pretty easy to distinguish from the texture of mycelium.
