Please Help: H-Poo Pasturization
    #15755269 - 02/03/12 10:06 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Im trying to pasturize straw h-poo 50\50. I filled pillow case with straw, h-poo, and some gypsum, then I put pillow case in large pot, and then I filled the pot with water. I have a long thermometer probe that I have stuck through the opening in the pillow case so I can see the actual temp in the substrate, and then I tied the pillow case around it.  The problem is trying to achieve a consistant temp of 175. As I probe around the dense poo the temp changes drastically between 100 and 210 degrees. Outside the pillow case its at like 220, but inside in some spots its only like 90. I don't want to over or under pasturize my substrate. Im wondering if I heat the water to like 180 and then put the pillow case of substrate in the pot, it would drop the temp down to around 175, and it would cook more evenly. I would be most grateful for any experienced advice. TY.

 he wants to pasteurize, not use a pc. I think you could do what you said and make it work. Personally I like to bring the sub to field cap., put it in a container like jars or autoclave bags before boiling, so you dont have to drain to field capacity after you pasteurize

I imagine draining to feild capacity must be a bitch.

Any tips for anyone not able to use your workaround?

Actually not everyone was a noob.  Being a noob is a very new phenomenon.  Many people, the great majority in fact, were simply "beginners", "novices" or "new to mushroom growing".  Being a "noob" is reserved, and in fact created specifically for and by, the newer, much more lame generations coming about.
