Should you be able to slowly squeeze air out of sealed bags?
    #1575487 - 05/25/03 01:15 AM (15 years, 6 days ago)

Im broke so all I have is one of those eurosealer things. Im having a hard time telling if the bags are adequatelys sealed and so Im like doing them 4 or 5 times working my way down the top of the bag. I dont want to half ass this though so how do I tell for sure that the seal is good?

well if you squeeze and it leaks-its not sealed. if you look at it that way, then when you want sealed bags for storage you will have them.

If you are using a "seal before you pressure cook" type of bag you want all the air out before you seal it.

Try dipping the sealed area in soapy water and then squeezing. Bubbling will show you the holes. Some air can be slowly squeezed through a filter patch but that is not a problem.

If you don't think that the eurosealer is doing the trick, then just use an iron.. It works perfectly if you do it quickly.

Yeah, they have filter patches on them. Thats why I wasnt sure about air being squeezed out (althought its probably a dumb question). Im going to try sealing before I cook like Una recomended in her post in advaced forum. I am just a bit paranoid about my seal due to the fact that Im using large bags with a large amount of substrate, its alot to lose if one gets contams.
